The campus enjoys incredible vistas of the Smoky Mountains, views that span across several states and is widely known as an outdoor recreational paradise for campers, cyclists, climbers, cavers and hikers, all this while being conveniently located within two hours of Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville. Opportunity: We are currently seeking an experienced accountant to serve as the college's Controller. The Controller leads the college's accounting department and is responsible for the administration of all financial and accounting processes and coordination of financial reporting, budgeting, and tax/regulatory reporting functions. The Controller position reports to the CFO/VP of Finance & Operations. This is a full-time, fully benefited position that oversees staff and college work-study students. Requirements: Bachelor's degree Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience Strong organizational and process-flow design skills Strong team-management skills Preferences: CPA and/or MBA 10 or more years of accounting experience and with leading teams Experience in a controller level role Experience with financial modeling and forecasting Experience in public, not-for-profit, and/or higher education accounting and finance Familiarity with Banner (ERP system) Responsibilities: Directly supervise all functions necessary to properly collect, remit, and report funds in accordance with applicable law and regulation. Continuously seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations while maintaining exceptional customer service levels. Collaborate with other departments, faculty teams and financial stakeholders to provide accounting and budgetary support and counsel. Oversee the reporting of institution-wide and departmental financial reports on a monthly and annual basis. Also develop special-format reports required for audit purposes, board review, and denominational committee review. Manage the day-to-day processes and support required by external, independent auditors. Direct cash management functions, including short term, borrowing and investing. Manage all accounts receivable policies and collection activities for college accounts. Manage, track, and account for restricted and endowed funds. Track and reconcile government funding. Oversee the preparation and presentation of all internal and external financial reporting for the Department of Education, SAM, IPEDS, IRS (990, 990T, 1098T and 1099s) and others that may be required by law, regulation, denomination, college leadership and financial best practices. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the CFO. Additional Eligibility Requirements: An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments Physical Work Environment: This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and other job-related technology. There is a mix of standing and sitting for this particular role. Classified as light, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 10 lbs. Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language. Generally, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel may be required infrequently, primarily for training or professional advancement.
