Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school. Students learn core content through language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, or Russian (depending on the school). United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through internationally bench-marked curriculum spanning each language village. Summary: Under general supervision, provides comprehensive speech therapy and language development services to a specified population of students. Screens and evaluates students; develops and implements therapeutic speech and language development program and services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatments for students with speech and language disorders, hearing disorders, and oral motor disorders Performs evaluations with particular attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, and auditory skills Maintains communication with the student and others concerned regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process Develops, implements and evaluates therapeutic speech and language development programs and services Provides speech articulation therapy and works with patient sot develop language skills as appropriate Facilitates behavior management in students and families as appropriate to the needs of the student; teaches parenting skills as required Works with teachers and administrators for welfare of students Maintains records of work performed Maintains equipment and supplies used as part of the therapeutic process Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned Education and Experience: Master's degree in speech-language pathology accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in audiology and speech-language pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Practicum or internship, with children and students ages birth-21 in a school setting, equivalent to 8 weeks full-time (320 hours) under the supervision of a professionally licensed SLP Successfully passed PRAXIS 5331 or hold valid ASHA certification Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and/or kinesthetic Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the stakeholders Ability to evaluate and treat speech, language, and hearing disorders Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements Knowledge of relevant diagnostic tests and procedures Knowledge of the nature and psycho-biological basis of speech-language and/or auditory impairments Records maintenance skills Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or auditory impairments Knowledge of speech articulation and language skills therapy techniques Counseling and behavior management skills Knowledge of child development and parenting theory and practice Ability to develop, implement, evaluate and modify therapeutic programs and services Skills in use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment
