( Video ) Nursery Supervisor Position Overview: Do you love working with tiny bundles of love? Does helping shelter animals fill your heart with joy? If so, leading the team that serves the Bottle Baby ICU, Kitten Nursery, Mutternity Suites and Catternity Suites is for you! Be a part of the dedicated team that will care for over 2,000 orphaned kittens and over 400 pregnant and nursing canines. You will play a vital role in serving the most vulnerable pets in our shelter while exhibiting innovation, compassion and excellence. This fast paced job is filled with cuteness and will require excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to pivot quickly. Essential Functions: Oversee daily operations in Kitten Nursery, Catternity Suites and Mutternity Suites as well as the Bottle Baby ICU (BBICU) which is open 24-hours a day. Coordinate, train staff/volunteers, evaluate and direct the activities of Kitten Nursery and Bottle Baby ICU. Coordinates the care and treatment of animals in these areas. Oversee daily treatments, medication, and open projects. Inform Veterinarians regarding health status of all pets in overseen areas. Create a plan with leadership and DVM's to continue movement for animals through Kitten Nursery, Baby ICU, Mutternity and Catternity Suites with an expected length of stay of seven days or less. Determine which pets are candidates for foster or rescue. Communicate with appropriate departments on capacity levels. Write weekly staff schedule. Provide input to the Manager on policies and procedures to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure that department goals are achieved. Side-by-side coaching with Nursery staff and Volunteer team. Facilitate team goal setting and annual performance review with Manager. Collaborate with Manager on performance issues, documentation and staff reviews. Create, maintain and update standard operating procedure documents. Create training documents and online training content for volunteers and staff. Responsible for ordering/restocking and cleanliness of areas on a daily basis. Maintain Chameleon and iDashboard data reporting and documentation including the monthly board report. Perform technician duties alongside of team members. Maintain a positive working environment, team morale and mediate interpersonal conflicts between employees. Work with manger to plan and facilitate team meetings and team building activities. Review and process biweekly payroll. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule as needed including occasional overnight shifts. Execute an excellent experience every time with all internal and external partners. Maintain euthanasia log. Promote safety on a continual basis; report all on-the-job injuries sustained by staff while in the work place. Other duties as assigned. Minimum of one year supervisory experience in animal welfare setting. Minimum of two years' experience working in the veterinary field. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Education / Certifications / Licenses: High school diploma OR GED required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Language -Able to speak, read, write and understand English. Strong communication skills are needed. Should have good interpersonal skills and be able to resolve conflict. Mathematical - Basic. Technical - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software. Other: Regular attendance, punctuality and access to reliable transportation required. Work Environment / Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
