Education Director Revision Date: 03/21/2023 Department: Education Employment Status: Full Time Program: Executive Office FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Tribal Operations Director Schedule: 40 hours/52 weeks Supervises: Community Education Administrator, Early Learning Administrator, Yaghanen K-12 Administrator, Operations Administrator, and Education Grants Administrator Preference: TERO Ordinance 2017-01, P.L. 93-638 Job Summary The Education Director acts in a key leadership role within Kenaitze Indian Tribe (Tribe) to provide culturally appropriate educational services that facilitate lifelong learning for all participants (un'ina). The Director provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the Tribe's educational system builds a culture of lifelong learning that sustains our traditions and values in perpetuity. The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the strategic initiatives of the Tribe. Essential Functions Supervises education projects, such as grant research and administration for programs at the local, state, federal, and tribal levels Designs, plans, and implements an all-inclusive Education Division Leads the development of a K-12 education system per tribal council directives Develops, implements and evaluates education program efficacy with Tribal Member focused initiatives. Designs and implements, policies, plans and procedures in alignment with educational, Tribal, applicable state and federal law and regulations Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws , funding protocols, regulations, policies, practices and procedures as related to education and career training programs Participates and perform fiscal and performance audits Evaluates performance of operations by analyzing and interpreting data and matrix Collaborates with staff to ensure the Tribe's representation at essential local, state and federal meetings and activities Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance Foster partnerships within the departments to develop and prepare Tribal budgets related to programs and resources Evaluates the services provided by the Tribe in relation to specified goals, standards, and recommends modifications where appropriate In partnership with the Department of Finance, ensures accounting and performance compliance with all grant-funded initiatives; hires, supervises, directs, mentors and develops/improves skills of administrators in the performance of their duties It is the intent of this job description to highlight the essential functions of the position; however, it is not an all-inclusive list. Physical Requirements · Stand or Sit (Stationary position) · Walk (Move, Traverse) · Use hands/fingers to handle or feel (Operate, Activate, Use, Prepare, Inspect, Place, Detect, Position) · Climb (stairs/ladders) or balance (Ascend/Descend, Work atop, Traverse) · Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl (Position self (to), Move) · Talk/hear (Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information) · See (Detect, Determine, Perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate, Assess) · Taste/Smell (Detect, Distinguish, Determine) · Pushing or Pulling · Repetitive Motion OSHA Categories · Category III - Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid Travel · Local · In-State · Out-of-State Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field Experience Eight (8) years managing and supervising education and/or training programs Experience working with students; state and federal agencies; community based programs; and personnel management; development of community program strategies Experience managing private, state and federal grants; grant compliance; budget management; policy and procedure development; and implementation Preferred Masters Degree in Education or related field Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities Knowledge about educational system development and culturally responsive teaching pedagogy Experience working with tribes Experience with management of child and adult educational systems Experience working with program budgets and ensure the completion of reports, data reviews and project outcomes License/Certification Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy . Current Pediatric/Adult CPR/First Aid Certification, or obtain within 90 days of hire Alaska type B administrative certificate, or eligible to obtain within 120 days of hire Special Skills Ability to prioritize and effectively manage a wide range of tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines Effective problem solving, negotiation, conflict management and leadership skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to hold staff accountable and to motivate and develop them to do their job effectively and efficiently Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire Job Posted by ApplicantPro
