George Fox University's Hadlock Student Center and department of University Recreation are looking for a Recreation Specialist to join their team as a key contributor in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, promoting healthy lifestyles, and to a vibrant campus community. About the Job: In collaboration with the Director of University Recreation and the Assistant Director of University Recreation, the Recreation Specialist will provide leadership and program administration for the Hadlock Student Center (HSC) and University Recreation. In addition to other duties, the Recreation Specialist will oversee the areas of rock climbing programs and facilities, as well as marketing and outreach. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Directing the Hadlock Student Center climbing wall and related rock climbing programs. (60%) Directing the marketing and outreach for University Recreation (UREC). (30%) Assisting with department administration and recreational programming. (10%) Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service. By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role. Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people. We're looking for candidates who have: A minimum of one year of experience in recreation programming, sport management, fitness management or leadership, student activities, or other applicable leadership. One or more years of experience working in a climbing wall environment. Demonstrated awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people. The ability to challenge, support, mentor, interact with and relate to college students. The availability and willingness to work at least one weekend day per month and some evenings. An AED, CPR, First Aid certification (or are willing to obtain). A Climbing Wall Instructor certification (or are willing to obtain). Strong written and oral communication skills along with innate organizational skills. The demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith. Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes: Prior administrative experience in recreation, fitness, sports, or student development. Demonstrated experience supervising staff, including student employees and/or interns, preferably in a fitness facility, recreation, or sport environment. Job information: Schedule - 25 hours per week, 9 months of the year (0.46 FTE) Occasional weekends and evening shifts are required. Work Period - August 15th through May 15th Work Location - Newberg Campus Working Conditions - Physical requirements are those of a normal office environment but could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
