SUMMARY Must be CFP certified or 4-6 months from exam date. Provides accurate, relevant, and helpful information to assist clients and potential clients regarding their personal finances. Assists clients and potential clients in developing short-term and long-term financial goals. The counselor will administer remedial, productive, and preventative, counseling sessions via telephone, internet or in-person consultation by performing the following duties.**Spanish Preferred ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties listed below. ADVANCED PLANNING BALANCE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that educates individual consumers about general financial and investment concepts. We do not provide securities advice because BALANCE is not a Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm. Assist clients with education related to general financial planning topics including, but not limited to retirement planning, business planning, insurance, investments, and real estate. Review client cash flows, insurance coverages, retirement plans, and financial goals. Possess a firm understanding of the difference between education and advice. MONEY MANAGEMENT Assists clients in developing specific strategies to resolve past and present financial concerns, establish and achieve financial goals, and create and maintain overall financial stability. Work with clients to establish household budgets / spending plans. Work with clients to create statements of net worth. DEBT /CREDIT ISSUES Confers with clients to ascertain available monthly income after living expenses to meet current and/or anticipated debt/credit obligations. Educates the client on ways to raise their credit score and how that relates to interest rates. Calculate amount of debt and funds available to plan method of payoff and estimate time for debt liquidation. Establishes payment priorities to reduce client's overall costs by liquidating high-interest, short-term loans or contracts first. ADMINISTRATIVE Promptly answers incoming calls from clients. Accurately determine the nature of the client's problem or question and establish the best course of action. Maintain a working knowledge of national and community resources. Make appropriate referrals as necessary. Schedule and confirm client appointments. Attempt to reschedule missed appointments. Complete regular client follow-ups. Performs elements of on-going casework as needed to provide service and problem-solving assistance for client inquiries and account management. Document all client discussions in the appropriate system immediately following each interaction. Produce and provide each client with a written action plan and/or summary of the appointment that supports the counselor's conclusion as to the course of action that promotes the client's best interests or the client's choice of action. Motivates the client to implement the established plan. Conducts educational workshops, agency presentations and/or community outreach. Develops and maintains expertise regarding advanced planning topics through continuing education. Other duties as may be assigned. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent Oral and Written Communication Building Collaborative RelationshipsCustomer Orientation Diagnostic Information GatheringConceptual Thinking Technical ExpertiseInitiative Personal Credibility EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year university or college and a minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training (EAP, financial services, counseling, banking, credit and/or collection). CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. Must successfully pass and obtain the following certifications within six months of employment: Must possess the following certification: CFP® - CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Valid driver's license OTHER SKILLS Bilingual capabilities a plusWORK ENVIRONMENTThis is a full-time telework position. Must have a fixed desk, workstation, or home office in a non-public setting. Must have a strong internet connection (no Satellite or Wireless Internet Service) and plug company-provided equipment directly into the router/modem.Occasional travel may be required. Must be available to travel up to 20% of the time.
