KyCAD is seeking to fill one new position in the role of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of English . Rank will be based on qualifications and experience at the time of hire. The initial contract will be for one-year full-time, with the possibility for renewal . Candidates must be available for work starting August 1, 2023 . KyCAD does not offer tenure-track appointments. This position is open to internal and external applications. In addition to qualifications, experience, and alignment with KyCAD's mission, vision and institutional culture as an independent College of Art and Design, KyCAD is intentionally seeking to broaden the diversity of its full-time faculty. Position Description : As a new college in the vibrant arts city of Louisville, our mission is to continue to deliver a first-class arts education to our students by offering a contemporary and interdisciplinary approach to practice. We expect our faculty to be practicing scholars who are interested in teaching, and in continuing to develop an interdisciplinary, subject-led curriculum. In keeping with its forward-looking culture of innovation, KyCAD's unique program is organized around two semesters (Fall and Spring) consisting of two 6-week sessions and one 3-week session each. The candidate should be interested in playing an active role in a vibrant, student-centered teaching and learning environment, and should be ready to work with a small, dedicated team building a forward-looking college of art and design that places an emphasis on city partnerships, community involvement, and undergraduate research. Responsibilities: The candidate will bring an important energy and vision for developing a future-focused college. A robust, collegial and inclusive approach to decision making and discussion is required. As the institution is growing and changing quickly a flexible, hands-on approach is needed. An annual workload planning process will reflect the institution's changing needs. Teaching and Teaching Related Administration Teach up to six (6) classes per academic year, including First Year Writing Seminar, Introduction to Literature, Creative Writing, and other Humanities Electives. Create and maintain syllabi for all courses taught. Collaborate with other faculty to create a holistic approach to teaching and learning. Provide mentoring and academic advising to students through appointments and office hours. Coordinate guest speakers as required or beneficial to student learning and development. Lead off-campus study visits that enhance student learning and assist in fulfilling course requirements. Engage in studio critiques of student art at all levels as a representative of the General Education program. Together with College staff and administration, assist in building collaborative community and industry opportunities for students to extend their learning. Service Collaborate with Studio Faculty on BFA Thesis written components. Oversee and assist in maintaining facilities in relation to classes taught. Work on special projects on behalf of the institution as needed. Participate in committee, community and faculty meetings. Work with the KyCAD team to develop and complete our accreditation process. Engage in course and program assessment, including planning, implementation, and learning outcomes development. Assist in the collaborative design and continuous improvement of a general education curriculum that focuses on innovative new models of delivery within a BFA program. Act as an ambassador for the institution at local, national and international conferences and events. Participate in the College-wide recruitment, admissions, and scholarship processes. Embrace and enhance the College's culture to help ensure continued engagement, motivation, and drive. Scholarship/Research/Practice Actively pursue a self-designed Practice/Research/Scholarship program of continuous professional and creative development that informs teaching, maintains a current understanding of subjects of interest and contributes to contemporary dialogue in the field. Qualifications: Master's Degree in English or MFA in Creative Writing, Ph.D, preferred, or Master's Degree with 18 graduate credits in English. Three academic years of teaching experience in a higher education environment, preferred. KyCAD welcomes applicants from both traditional and non-traditional academic and professional backgrounds.
