The role of the DSP is to teach, encourage, inspire, mentor, influence, instruct, nurture, and praise the individuals that you support. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL In this role, you will support individuals with daily living skills including housekeeping, cooking, hygiene, and self-administration of medications. While supporting people with disabilities, you learn their individual differences in ability, personality, interests, learning, motivation, and likes and dislikes. After learning each Individual's Life Plan, you follow it closely to ensure health and safety and achieve goals. You assess their needs, positively influence behavior, and provide skills that will all assist them in integrating into their community in the least restrictive environment. It is rewarding to see your work as a DSP pay off when the people you support achieve their goals. The safety of the individuals we support and the safety of our employees are both very important to The Arc Wayne. Training on all safety requirements will be provided during the onboarding process. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent Current, valid NYS driver's license for at least 2 years and a safe driving record Ability to pass a background and reference check Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to physically assist individuals who use wheelchairs and/or walkers Previous experience in the Human Services Field, as a Home Health Aide or a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a plus!
