Owensboro Municipal Utilities Vehicle & Equipment Technician Job Description Job Code: 040 Exempt: No Civil Service: Yes Random Drug Screen: Yes Residency Requirement: Yes Department: Delivery Reports To: Contract and Building Maintenance Supervisor Location: Delivery GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The intent of this description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees on this job. Employees may be required or assigned other related activities, projects, or tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Under the general supervision of the Contract and Building Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for the service and repair of vehicles and equipment, assuring that they are maintained in a safe working condition. Responsible for some of the maintenance and service performed on Delivery building, facilities, and grounds. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Services all scheduled vehicles and equipment. Such service shall include oil changes, lubrication, brakes, safety and mechanical equipment. Makes scheduled monthly inspections of designated vehicles and equipment and performs corrective or preventative repairs required. Also inspects and makes repairs when requested by operator, supervisor, or by Job Order in maintenance building or in field as required. Prepares required records relative to maintenance, supplies, and inventory and inputs data into computer vehicle maintenance system as required. Confers with supervisor on emergency and major repairs as to cost, procedure, priority, etc. Purchases supplies and parts in accordance with company purchasing policy. Assures that shop, tools, and work area are clean and orderly. Maintains knowledge of operating and maintenance techniques for all types of vehicles and power-operated equipment used by the company including diesel/gas engines, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, metal-working and diagnostic and recovery type equipment. Performs weekly Delivery backup generator test. Schedules bi-annual preventative maintenance for these units. Works with contractors on AC unit repairs and preventive maintenance. Performs inspection and maintenance on all air compressor units. Performs light building maintenance such as replace florescent fixture bulbs and ballast. Maintains all crane and hoist inspections and operation. Inspects and services all roof fan exhaust motors. Inspects and maintains all eye wash stations, first-aid kits, and fire extinguishers. Orders, stocks, and maintains all required tools, supplies, and chemicals in orderly fashion. Adhere to all governmental safety codes and company standards. Completes all training in a timely manner. Abides by all federal and state laws applicable to the position and complies with all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures established by the utility. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs. CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Not indicated. The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, in addition to writing routine reports and correspondence needed. Must have and maintain valid Kentucky and commercial driver's licenses.ExperienceThree years training and/or experience in the repair of all components of auto, truck, gas/diesel engines, small engines, and hydraulics.
