Job Title: Electrical Department Lead Department: Engineering Reports to: Engineering Manager GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary) The Electrical Department Lead Engineer provides safe, "Best for Project" solutions for complex projects, while ensuring regulatory compliance for all electrical engineering deliverables. The Electrical Department Lead Engineer is responsible for collaborating with other disciplines and team members in developing safe and effective designs. The Electrical Department Lead Engineer supervises the electrical engineers and designers as appropriate, conducts peer reviews, ensures quality checks of the work, leads complex project work, manages personnel development and succession planning, teaches and mentors, plans and distributes the work, manages the group toolbox, and ensures continuous improvement of standards, toolboxes, and workflows. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Health & Safety Work in compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations for Cementation Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behavior while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbent's capabilities, on an as required basis, might be assigned by management. Provide level of effort estimates for engineering proposal submissions Adhere to Cementation engineering standards Provide electrical material estimating support to business development team. As requested, attend technical conferences, representing Cementations. capabilities, and attend seminars that will further Cementation's knowledge. As required, participate in marketing or bid meetings to answer questions related to project scope, or Cementation's technical capabilities. Monitor the Electrical Department personnel regularly to maintain group viability. Forecast workloads and ensure the group is "right sized" to meet these needs. Assess group availability against the current workload, set priorities with Project Managers and Discipline Leads, Design Supervisor, and assign work appropriately. Actively participate in the development of employees understanding their career aspirations and developing pathways for achievement. Develop and manage the plan and budget for required training. Conduct annual Performance Assessment Reviews in accordance with company policy. Collaborate with Cementation's Project Services and Operations groups to produce "Best for Project" designs that are safe, reflect the client's operability requirements, and are constructible. As an expert in the operation of the engineering software used by the group, understand and manage software and hardware needs for the group. Regularly review "state of the art" software/hardware industry developments, monitor the software skills of engineers, mitigate risks and act on opportunities to ensure long term technical capability of the group. Manage the maintenance and development of departmental discipline specific standards ensuring conformance with current codes, standards, and mining regulations. Specific standards include specifications, design basis and criteria templates, design spreadsheets, workflow procedures, and change management forms. Provide coaching to direct reports in the selection of electrical equipment and the design of electrical circuits and network systems, completing all necessary calculations to ensure compliance with codes, standards, regulations, special industry guidelines, and company and Client standards. Ensure that the group is made aware of, is provided with copies of, and is using the most current versions of codes, standards, regulations, and company and client standards. Model electrical systems in ETAP and perform load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash studies. Select electrical equipment and work with designers on electrical equipment layouts. Provide input on P&IDs and interpret them as needed to design I/O schematics. Design and create control panel layouts, bill of materials, and schematics. Design shaft signaling and fiber network systems. Participate in design reviews, addressing electrical and other concerns and collaborating with the Cementation Operations group to ensure that facilities will be built in the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective manner possible. At various project phases, complete timely reviews of drawings, collaborating with other disciplines, project managers, project services and operations groups, and designers. Complete code and general electrical engineering calculations and conduct peer reviews as required. During construction, assess and provide technical recommendations in response to field inquiries. In providing field solutions, understand and enforce change management principles, use Cementation standard procedures and forms, and ensure that project scope, budget and schedule are respected at all times. Prepare and issue shop and site review reports, complete with observations and recommendations. Follow up as necessary to ensure that recommendations have been satisfactorily addressed. Through the fabrication and construction phases, actively participate in assuring that all tests, inspections, and measurements mandated by regulation or by the Engineer-of-Record have been completed and satisfied. Travel Requirements This position has the requirement for occasional travel to project sites, offices, and to conduct shop reviews Travel period may range from one day to several weeks and may include overseas assignments Supervisory Responsibilities Will oversee and review the work of electrical designers and electrical engineers as direct reports Supervisory responsibilities for all direct reports within this discipline, including technical review of work, checking adherence to working hours, compliance with company and regulatory standards, codes and regulations Will direct, oversee, check and stamp the work of EITs May direct, oversee, check and stamp the work of Engineering Intern, or check and counter-stamp work in other jurisdictions of for Certificate of Authorization Assess the behavior and performance of his team holding team accountable Enforce company policy through disciplinary action as required Participate in group recruiting efforts by preparing candidate requirements, interviewing, assessing and recommending candidates, and managing the probationary period Check and approve the timesheets of direct reports In collaboration with Project Manages, manage and approve the group vacation schedule and flex schedules, ensuring sufficient group coverage QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Registered as a Professional Engineer Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution NCEES record is beneficial Experience in discipline specific design of Underground Mining or Heavy Industrial Electrical Infrastructure is preferred Minimum 15 to 20 years of relevant experience Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Safety oriented Collaborative team player and leader Professional Effective communicator Engaged Innovative Self-starter who is responsible for own work and those of the team Positively reacts to change Knowledge and use of NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 70E, UL508A, & IEEE Standards Knowledge of underground/above ground mining infrastructure Knowledge and skills in the following software considered an asset: AutoCAD Electrical, Navisworks, Revit MEP ETAP or other recognized electrical analysis software Bluebeam Revu Software MS Office Suite Supporting a Diverse and Inclusive Workforce At Cementation Americas, we believe in diversity and inclusion.
