ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate. Repairs metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools. Applies knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures. Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plan layouts, and determines assembly methods and sequence of operations for work involving extremely close tolerances. Sets up and operates machine tools and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Lifts machine parts manually, uses hoists and positions and secures parts on surface plate of worktable using devices such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates. Ensures surfaces are smooth using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders. Fits and assembles parts together using hand tools. Verifies dimensions alignments and clearances using measuring instruments. This job description reflects the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Additional duties and responsibilities may be required, based upon business needs, at any time with or without notice. Performs complex design investigation, analysis, feasibility studies and CAD design for new tools using customer supplied data. Typical tools designed for hard stamping, weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, brake tooling, inspection fixtures, etc. Design modifications to dies and design sensor application. QUALIFICATIONS High school level education or equivalent specialized training which may be obtained in vocational courses or on the job. Requires the ability to verify dimensions, alignments and clearances, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers. Knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures required. Knowledge of weld fixtures on robotic type welders. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to lift 25 lbs with or without accommodations
