Who You Are: You are a highly motivated self-starter, experienced with deforestation in corporate supply chains and possess strong research, verbal and writing communication, and project management skills. What You Will Be Doing: Team: The Ceres Food and Forests team works with the most influential investors and companies to decouple business growth from the destruction of land- based ecosystems. We work across economic sectors with the largest impacts on nature to protect and restore forests and other natural ecosystems and improve the management of agricultural lands-all in a way that advances justice and equity for vulnerable communities. Position: Reporting to the Food and Forests Director, the Deforestation Manager will manage programmatic work on the Food and Forests team to improve the sustainability performance of companies with regards to deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems. The Manager may also support engagement with companies on other topics related to nature, land use, and climate. This role is a full-time position that may work remotely or in the Boston, MA office or San Francisco, CA office. Candidates must be flexible to work with employees in all US time zones. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop strategies to influence corporate adoption of Ceres recommendations on deforestation and conversion Manage production, release and distribution of food and forests research, including reports, issue briefs, and engagement briefs for investors Manage consultants to conduct research and deliver written materials Lead direct engagement with companies on targets & implementation plans related to no-deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems ​Provide issue expertise on deforestation to the rest of the Food and Forests team and Ceres staff Represent Ceres in working groups and NGO collaborations related to deforestation as well as conferences and meetings as spokesperson for project or program work (may involve travel as required) Stay current on scientific and market developments related to deforestation and corporate supply chains Work with Ceres' communications team to develop talking points, blogs and media materials Train and supervise other Food and Forests team staff or interns as needed Support the development and execution of programmatic strategy for Ceres' commodity-based deforestation work, including work planning, output delivery and progress evaluation Plan and execute educational events for investors and companies related deforestation Coordinate with other Ceres program teams (e.g., Investor Network, Company Network, Communications, Development, Operations) as needed to accomplish organizational objectives Partner with Program Director and Director in production of funding proposals with the Ceres Development team, providing support for funder meetings and outreach to potential new funders Our ideal candidate has: We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience. Therefore, we welcome candidates from diverse and nontraditional backgrounds for this role who have demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to carry out the major duties outlined in this job description, including the following required skills:  Bachelor's degree required or commensurate experience Five years of work experience on sustainability issues, showing a progression of responsibilities in their positions Demonstrated knowledge of deforestation in corporate commodity supply chains (especially cattle, soy, palm oil and timber) through academic or work experience Excellent writing and editing skills to produce high-quality white papers, reports and presentations. Ability to translate complex, technical science into information that can be used effectively by financial decision-makers Demonstrated project management skills overseeing multiple projects and external relationships at the same time Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), other database applications, teleconference and webinar systems and standard e-mail computer applications Interest in being part of a diverse workforce and willingness to support Ceres' Commitment to Inclusion and Equity Demonstrated initiative and motivation, and ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Desire to work in a nonprofit organization committed to advancing corporate sustainability Preferred Qualifications: Experience conducting research on deforestation, climate change, and agriculture issues Experience with frameworks and platforms for corporate deforestation and sustainability commitments and disclosure (e.g., Accountability Framework, CDP, Consumer Goods Forum, etc.) Demonstrated knowledge of commodity certifications related to deforestation (e.g., RSPO, RTRS, RSC) Strong meeting facilitation, communication, and presentation skills, including synthesizing research and conceptual work into actionable deliverables About Our Client: Our client is a nonprofit organization working with the most influential capital market leaders to solve the world's greatest sustainability challenges. Additional Information: This is a remote position. Hiring salary is $79,550 to $81,550 paired with competitive benefits.
