Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Summary: This is a project-based internship. Intern will select a project, with guidance and oversight from staff engineers, to be completed over the duration of their tenure. Interns will be asked to gather baseline data, develop and manage a project budget and timeline, define metrics for success, work with technical experts and manufacturing associates to improve or develop processes, specify or design tooling and fixturing, report regularly on progress, and measure results to ensure goals are achieved. As hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment are also critical to the student's development, some portion of the student's time (up to 25%) may also be spent in the shop or tool room. The intent is to provide the intern with the opportunity to take complete ownership of a project to build essential engineering skills and make an impactful and lasting contribution to the operations of Leonhardt Manufacturing.Other duties as required may be assigned to assist staff engineers in the course of normal business operations. Qualifications: Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field Microsoft Office proficiency Knowledge of 3D CAD systems Working knowledge of manufacturing processes used in general fabrication and tube bending Comfortable working with and around manufacturing equipment An ability to think analytically and use data to guide decision making Strong oral and written communication skills Self-starter with the ability to take direction and translate to action A desire to learn and to make an impactful contribution on the growth and operation of our organization Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear, frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work schedule for this classification is full-time. Incumbents must work a full-time (40) hours or more per week schedule. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal indoor air-conditioned temperatures and may be exposed to non-air-conditioned areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate where hearing protection is necessary based on OSHA requirements.
