Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to develop and manage the preventive maintenance program to limit the downtime of our rolling stock equipment. As SEC's Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, you'll take the lead on ensuring timely, efficient, and reliable service in the areas of vehicle and hydraulic equipment repairs and maintenance. You have ten years' experience in vehicle maintenance with two years' experience in a supervisory role. In addition, your experience includes work with bucket trucks, trenchers, mini excavators, forklifts, and other items related to utility line construction. Key functions include: Oversee the maintenance and organization of the service garage. Maintain Cooperative motor vehicles, assorted trailers, and various pieces of powered equipment, compressors, generators, right-of-way equipment, chainsaws, lawn mowers, and other gasoline and diesel equipment in good working condition. Ensure that scheduled preventive maintenance and minor and major repairs are performed in accordance with operating manuals and Cooperative policy. Make recommendations of the types and kinds of rolling stock to be purchased by the Cooperative. Maintain records of work performed supplies used. Ensure all shop personnel are certified Virginia Vehicle Safety Inspectors as prescribed by Virginia State Police Directives. Maintain current knowledge of electronic ignition systems; all transmission types including manual, automatic, four-wheel drive, etc.; and diesel engines used to include tractors, trenchers, trucks, etc. Supervise the work of the mechanics and other employees who may be assigned to perform vehicle maintenance. Negotiate, secure, coordinate, and review the work of private or contract repair personnel and services used to supplement the Cooperative's fleet mechanic staff. Maintain relationships and contracts with area repair facilities and mobile repair services to ensure their ability to meet the Cooperative's needs. Recommend private or contract repair facilities and/or services when needed. Participate in interviews for the position of mechanic. Procure items which are necessary to properly maintain or repair rolling stock in adequate and good condition. Procure items which are needed immediately and can be obtained locally to maintain the rolling equipment. Assign shift and overtime work, as needed. Inspect the work of the mechanics and make recommendations regarding unsatisfactory work. Report infractions of rules by the mechanics, temporary employees, and other assigned employees. Ensure all assigned road equipment is properly licensed and safety inspected. Properly maintain the Commercial Driver's License Third Party agreement with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Maintain knowledge of traffic laws, safety rules, and regulations relating to the safe operation and care of motor vehicles. Maintain a supply of personal tools adequate to perform the duties of this position. Maintain and manage the Cooperative's fuel and spare parts inventory for fleet operations. Education and Knowledge High school diploma or GED required Associate's degree in automotive repair preferred Class A CDL required (or ability to acquire within three months of hire) Certificates in Background Automotive Technology or Fleet Management courses or experience preferred Experience working with a utility fleet preferred Additional technical classes in automotive and heavy equipment preferred: ANSI Certified for Dielectric Testing State Inspector Certified Cummings Certifications Diesel Mechanic Certification WABCO Vehicle Control Systems International certifications Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications Welding Certifications - or proof of ability to weld Knowledge of quality and process improvement issues Ability to analyze processes and implement solutions Solid knowledge of equipment used for line construction such as trucks, bucket trucks, trenchers, trailers, forklifts, etc. Knowledge of PC and related software At Southside Electric Cooperative, our Members are our priority.
