The Learning Strategist - Digital Engagement works across the spectrum of science topics within OMSI's Future Learning Framework to activate, iterate, and sustain OMSI's presence in the digital learning ecosystem. In doing so, the Strategist elevates and amplifies key strategic priorities across the museum to advance brand awareness, financial goals, expand educational impacts, and increase OMSI's presence across the state and region. To accomplish this, the position produces a variety of content (videos, live broadcasts, learning modules, articles, etc) by collaborating across the Learning Experiences Division and with key community partners; identifies topic areas for focus; writes, edits, and storyboards concepts for production; coaches on-camera talent for best practices; edits and post-processes materials to a final product. Digital Learning Experiences build on OMSI's strengths in developing interactive STEAM learning experiences, supporting caregivers as their children's teachers, partnering with schools, and partnering with culturally specific and rural community organizations to help bridge the opportunity gap through new digital experiences. Essential Job Responsibilities Museum Engagement Leadership: Collaborates with the Director of Museum and Campus Engagement to forecast supply and staffing expenses; Collaborates with the Manager of Engagement to align Digital Engagement content and operational schedules with staffing and resources; Collaborates and strategizes across OMSI to align ongoing program delivery and associated approaches, like Floor Facilitation, with Future Learning Framework. Responsible for planning, designing, creating, editing, and publishing digital learning and educational content to advance OMSI's mission: Develops, plans, communicates, implements, and refines schedule and rate of change for digital learning content; Ensures content is refreshed for edu/explore by ideating, developing, and creating digital learning content in collaboration with partners and OMSI staff throughout the region; Maintains functionality and upkeep of omsi.edu/explore by updating pages, checking links, refreshing content, and collaborating with Marketing on Search Engine Optimization (SEO); Oversees copy style and tone for all digital learning and educational content. Develops a science education and digital learning content strategy that conforms to and sets out to advance OMSI's mission, Future Learning Framework, and strategic priorities: Develops digital learning editorial strategy, to ensure content is accurate and consistent across all delivery platforms; Activates the Future Learning Framework through digital science learning products; Performs exhaustive research to gain in-depth knowledge of priority audiences to achieve OMSI's vision, equity, and inclusion goals; Applies OMSI Brand Guidelines to govern tone, style, and voice of all content, and coaches others to ensure guidelines are followed. Collaborates across OMSI to align with marketing strategies, fundraising approaches, and learning impacts: Ensures digital educational content aligns with the brand and adds value to existing and prospective audiences and program participants; Analyzes data and determine more effective content strategies and continually improve approaches; Tracks and reports on content performance to support Key Outcome Indicator measurements; Conducts periodic content audits to update and refresh strategy informed by Key Outcome Indicator tracking. Manages equipment and spaces for digital learning content production: Facilitates the use of the Digital Recording Studio (DRS) for internal and external content development, including orientation and training for new and existing technologies; Oversees operations of the DRS and ensures safe handling of associated equipment; Coordinates external partner's space use and provides introductory and ongoing training to users as necessary; Manages, maintains, and keeps up to date assets and equipment associated with digital learning content development, in particular the Digital Learning Recording Studio; Maintains and keeps current the digital sound library and other studio assets. Community Partner Stewardship: Collaborates across OMSI to identify, cultivate, and steward opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships that support community partners' and OMSI's goals. Leads with an emphasis on BIPoC led/serving community members and organizations; Ensures collaborative projects are designed with clear expectations and responsibilities for each party, as well as developing and maintaining accurate records of partnership activity; Creates, manages, and systemizes codesign processes that encourage internal stakeholder and external community partner collaboration, with an emphasis on culturally responsive asset creation and programming deliverables; Collaborates with the Development department in fundraising efforts with internal and external stakeholders that center and amplify culturally-specific programming. Budget Management: Collaborates with Museum Engagement Leadership to draft and forecast operating budget for Digital Engagement; Collaborates with the Director of Guest Engagement to utilize restricted funds ($10k to $250k) for ongoing support and strategic advancement of digital learning-focused content; Manages monthly programming budgets with an expected annual expenditure of ~$5,000. Orders and tracks program supplies and tracks associated expense budget; communicates with supervisor for large purchasing needs or replenishments; Working Conditions This position is exempt, paid salaried; This position is regular full-time scheduled for 40 hours/week; Requires working onsite at the museum location; Scheduled to work from Monday to Friday from 9:00am-5:30pm. Requires working occasional weekend and evening programs and events; Requires occasional travel outside of the Portland Metro area. Physical Demands: 45 % sitting, 45 % standing, 10 % lifting/carrying/pushing up to 50 lbs: You must be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 or qualify for an accommodation under the ADA for medical or religious reasons; Ability to bend and stoop multiple times a day. Vision Demands include: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches of less) Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point) Depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships) Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus) Environmental Demands include: Work near moving mechanical parts Work around large crowds and long lines of people Work around loud, unpredictable, or repetitive sounds, motions, and experiences Work in tight, sometimes dark spaces Fumes or airborne particles Toxic or caustic chemicals Risk of electric shock Work with explosives Noise Levels include: Moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic) Secondary Job Responsibilities Secondary responsibilities include-but are not limited to-the following: Collaborates with the Exhibit Experiences team to maintain integrity and appearance of OMSI's exhibits on a daily basis; Keeps current in science and education related to OMSI's exhibits; Participates in museum-wide events such as OMSI After Dark, All-Staff Breakfast, and other events; Provides temporary supervision and support for hall/lab volunteers in the following areas, as needed: Turbine Hall (Chemistry Lab, Physics Lab, Teen Tech Center, and Innovation Stations) Natural Sciences Hall (Life and Paleontology Labs) Early Childhood Education areas (Curium and Science Playground) Featured Exhibits Hall Knowledge/Skills/Abilities REQUIREMENTS: Business Practices: Demonstrated and excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; Developed communication skills, with an emphasis on presentation and public speaking; Ability to model and support a positive team dynamic with paid and unpaid staff; Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, often with overlapping and time-sensitive deadlines; Demonstrated ability to pivot between individual and team work; Proficiency with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office; Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills; Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy; Ability to adhere to confidentiality, protocol, and community agreements; Exercises sound judgment while upholding high integrity and ethical standards. Content Creation Skills: Video production abilities, from concept to production to post-production (Premiere Pro); Skilled visual storyteller; Copywriting skills; Ability to ensure accurate communication of science and data, including appropriate internal and external review processes; In-depth experience with Premiere; Strong technical and creative proficiency to operate DSLR cameras; Extremely high level attention to details and technical requirements on production deliverables; Deeply experienced in collaborating with others to bring in new perspectives and underrepresented narratives through film and digital mediums; Creative self-starter with exceptional multimedia storytelling skills. PREFERENCES: Experience managing a recording studio; Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects); Experience with setting up and operating live broadcast productions and associated equipment; Proven ability to predict the resources and time required for digital content production. Education & Work Experience REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree or experience in broadcast journalism, film & television, audio/video production, or similar; At least 3 years work experience in video and audio production, with the following examples: Excellent communication, writing, and time management skills; Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle projects end-to-end; Advanced proficiency with video and audio editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro) and equipment; Proven ability to handle a fast-paced work environment and work independently; Highly collaborative. PREFERENCES: Informal education teaching experience (museum, zoo, nature preserve).
