Philadelphia FIGHT HealthCenter Medical Assistant- Broad Street Ministry Job Description Department: Philadelphia FIGHT Community Health Centers Supervisor: Director of Nursing Full-Time, 40 hours per week; non-exempt occasional extended evening hours and weekends Philadelphia FIGHT is a leading Federally Qualified Health Center with four clinical sites, providing access to state-of-the art, culturally competent primary care, advocacy, social services, consumer education, and outreach for all patients in need, regardless of HIV status or insurance status. Philadelphia FIGHT, initially founded in 1990 as a comprehensive AIDS service organization, is now a Federally Qualified Health Center with four clinical sites, providing access to state-of-the art, culturally competent primary care, advocacy, social services, consumer education, and outreach for all patients in need, regardless of HIV status or insurance status. Job Summary W e are seeking a passionate and motivated Medical Assistant to support us at Broad Street Ministry satellite clinic with experience and/or interest in working with persons experiencing homelessness, who may have had significant trauma including incarceration, substance abuse, and psychiatric hospitalization. This position will also float at our other clinics - all within a few blocks of each other in Center City Philadelphia. Community Health Centers Clinic at Broad Street Ministry - In partnership with Broad Street Ministry and their hospitality collaborative, FIGHT Community Health Centers Clinic at Broad Street Ministry is a satellite site of John Bell Health Center providing culturally competent care to the homeless population and the guests of BSM. Y-HEP (Youth Health Empowerment Project) Health Center offers a holistic and trauma-informed approach to primary care for adolescents and young adults (ages 13-24). Our goal is to be a welcoming and affirming environment for all patients and staff members. Our team-centered approach is essential to addressing the social determinants of health impacting our community, and includes access to integrated medical care, behavioral health services, coordinated PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV) services, gender affirming health care, a community health worker, case management, and a benefits coordinator. While open to all, the Y-HEP Health Center's mission is to reduce health disparities for particularly vulnerable populations. John Bell Health Center is a comprehensive medical clinic that provides primary health care to adults ages 18 and older. The John Bell Health Center was established to provide care to individuals living with chronic health conditions as a result of socio-economic factors including a history of incarceration. Our mission is to provide a safe space for people to access culturally competent health care regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. Co-located with a prevention-focused program, Institute for Community Justice, the John Bell Health Center supports and cares for people affected by the parallel crises of HIV and mass Jonathan LAX Treatment Center offers compassionate, culturally competent, integrated, patient-centered medical care, and social services to people living with HIV. We see patients from all walks of life and our team of dedicated providers works to address the unique needs of each individual. Our goal is to provide comprehensive care to all patients in a "one-stop-shop: setting. Inclusivity and respect for the dignity of our patients is at the center of all that we do here at FIGHT. Philadelphia FIGHT Pediatrics provides high quality, comprehensive, primary care to address the physical and emotional health needs of children from birth through age 18. The pediatrics clinic was added in 2017 that is co-located with Y-HEP's Adolescent and Young Adult Health Center. As such, it is imperative that candidates demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of various populations. The ideal candidate is professional, innovative, emotionally intelligent, intellectually curious, hard-working, reliable, computer savvy and open to new ideas. This person will take a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach to dealing with patients and their families. Job Responsibilities Clinical Tasks Escort patients back to the exam room and collect vital health information (i.e., chief complaint, blood pressure, heart rate, height/weight, vision/hearing screens, etc.). Perform phlebotomy with specimen collection and processing. Coordinate care for patients needing lab visits and at off-site labs. Coordinate care for Broad Street Ministry clients at other FIGHT clinics and services Administer injections and vaccinations in compliance with vaccine administration policies and procedures. Complete vaccine abstraction on all patients needing updated vaccine records in the Electronic Medical Record. Perform point of care tests, such as Rapid HIV tests, strep tests, glucose measurement, urine dipstick, etc. and participate in running controls in compliance with CLIA regulations at FIGHT. Document all activities related to patient care appropriately and in a timeframe set forth by policy in the Electronic Medical Record. Meticulously comply with all rules and regulations from the Vaccine for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults at Risk (VFAAR) programs, including weekly vaccine counts and monthly vaccine ordering. This also includes daily temperature monitoring of storage units with attention to risk for temperature excursions. Assist provider as a chaperone with any exam room procedures (ie, Nexplanon placement, pap smears). Maintain exam room cleanliness and safety at the beginning and end of each clinic day, and between visits. Monitor medical supply stock in both the exam rooms and in the supply closets and coordinate monthly supply order with Nurse Manager. Remove biohazard waste materials according to schedule. Maintain working relationship with consultants, including Stericycle and LabCorp to ensure proper waste disposal and phlebotomy/specimen collection and supply stock. Checking vital (blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry, height, weight) Upon request from providers and nursing, complete such tasks / procedures as but not a comprehensive list: Labs EKGs Urine dips and pregnancy checks Random blood glucose checks Rapid A1C testing Rapid urine drug screens Femoral sticks Nebulizers, IUD, abscess drainage, durable medical equipment, etc. Other duties Participate in all required staff meetings (monthly), daily huddles before clinic session starts, professional development meetings (supervision and MA skill share), and team meetings with administration staff (monthly). Promote collaborative and supportive work environment using professional and respectful communication with all team members. Work in compliance with all medical policies. Work in compliance with standards such as VFC, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and funding body regulations. Demonstrate commitment to clinical care and confidentiality. Contribute to quality improvement (QI) processes and performance measure projects as needed to meet grant requirements. Demonstrate initiative toward independent and collaborative role in clinic. Utilize problem- solving skills to improve quality of work and patient care. Qualifications Qualifications E ducational Background : High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Certification: 1. Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant required Within 30 days of hire, complete training in Blood borne pathogens, Post exposure prophylaxis, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations. Completion of AACO/TPAC Counseling and Testing Training within 1 year of hire. Current CPR certification is required, or renewal must be obtained within 60 days of employment Knowledge / Experience: General knowledge base in science, medicine, and the running of a medical clinic. Demonstrate the ability to understand the overall purpose of clinical care and importance of support staff. Basic medical terminology. Proficiency with using an electronic medical record system especially eClinicalWorks. At least 2-3 years of experience working in an outpatient practice. **Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred** General: Patient working with persons who may have difficulty trusting health care workers and need frequent reassurance and support Must be able to demonstrate judgment, patience, integrity, organization, and prioritization in multi-task environment. Needs to have attention to detail, dependability, listening and communication skills, and flexibility. Needs to be competent in the use of Electronic Medical Record Systems. Must be able to pass State Child Abuse clearance Physical Demands: Must be able to sit or stand and remain in a stationary position Must be able to walk, move, traverse about the inside of the office, laboratory Must be able to see, determine, identify, recognize and inspect Must be able to operate, use, prepare, place, position computer equipment, laboratory equipment Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, climb stairs Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds Compensation Competitive, benefits included.
