Philadelphia FIGHT Medical Assistant - Pediatrics/YHEP Job Description Hours: M-F 9a-5p Department: Philadelphia FIGHT Community Health Centers Supervisor: Nurse Manager Full-Time, 40 hours per week; occasional extended evening hours and weekends Philadelphia FIGHT is a leading Federally Qualified Health Center with four clinical sites, providing access to state-of-the art, culturally competent primary care, advocacy, social services, consumer education, and outreach for all patients in need, regardless of HIV status or insurance status. Philadelphia FIGHT, initially founded in 1990 as a comprehensive AIDS service organization, is now a Federally Qualified Health Center with four clinical sites, providing access to state-of-the art, culturally competent primary care, advocacy, social services, consumer education, and outreach for all patients in need, regardless of HIV status or insurance status. We are seeking passionate and motivated Medical Assistants to support us at the Pediatrics/YHEP clinic - one clinic with 2 distinct focusses - pediatrics and adolescents/young adults. FIGHT Pediatrics aims to provide comprehensive and culturally effective health care to children of all ages through young adulthood, regardless of insurance and immigration status. We aim to provide a health care environment where families and youth feel special and staff members are appreciated. Y-HEP (Youth Health Empowerment Project) Health Center offers a holistic and trauma-informed approach to primary care for adolescents and young adults (ages 13-24). Our goal is to be a welcoming and affirming environment for all patients and staff members. Our team-centered approach is essential to addressing the social determinants of health impacting our community, and includes access to integrated medical care, behavioral health services, coordinated PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV) services, gender affirming health care, a community health worker, case management, and a benefits coordinator. While open to all, the Y-HEP Health Center's mission is to reduce health disparities for particularly vulnerable populations. The patients and staff at Philadelphia FIGHT are diverse, representing a broad spectrum of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, HIV status, and physical ability. As such, it is imperative that candidates demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of various populations. The ideal candidate is professional, innovative, emotionally intelligent, intellectually curious, hard-working, reliable, computer savvy and open to new ideas. This person will take a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach to dealing with patients and their families. Job Responsibilities Clinical Tasks 1. Escort patients back to the exam room and collect vital healthinformation (i.e., chief complaint, blood pressure, heart rate,height/weight, vision/hearing screens, etc.).2. Perform phlebotomy with specimen collection and processing.Coordinate care for patients needing lab visits and at off-site labs.3. Administer injections and vaccinations in compliance with vaccineadministration policies and procedures. Complete vaccine abstractionon all patients needing updated vaccine records in the ElectronicMedical Record.4. Perform point of care tests, such as Rapid HIV tests, strep tests,glucose measurement, urine dipstick, etc. and participate in runningcontrols in compliance with CLIA regulations at FIGHT.5. Document all activities related to patient care appropriately and in atimeframe set forth by policy in the Electronic Medical Record.6. Meticulously comply with all rules and regulations from the Vaccine forChildren (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults at Risk (VFAAR) programs,including weekly vaccine counts and monthly vaccine ordering. Thisalso includes daily temperature monitoring of storage units withattention to risk for temperature excursions.7. Assist provider as a chaperone with any exam room procedures (ie,Nexplanon placement, pap smears).8. Maintain exam room cleanliness and safety at the beginning and endof each clinic day, and between visits.9. Monitor medical supply stock in both the exam rooms and in thesupply closets and coordinate monthly supply order with NurseManager.10. Remove biohazard waste materials according to schedule.11. Maintain working relationship with consultants, including Stericycle andLabCorp to ensure proper waste disposal and phlebotomy/specimencollection and supply stock.12. Checking vitals (blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry, height,weight)13. Upon request from providers and nursing, complete such tasks /procedures as but not a comprehensive list: LabsEKGsUrine dips and pregnancy checksRandom blood glucose checksRapid A1C testingRapid urine drug screensFemoral sticksNebulizers, IUD, abscess drainage, durable medical equipment, etc. Other duties 1. Participate in all required staff meetings (monthly), daily huddles before clinic session starts, professional development meetings (supervision and MA skill share), and team meetings with administration staff (monthly). 2. Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment using professional and respectful communication with all team members. Utilize Nurse Manager and Medical Director for any conflict management needed to address and resolve work tensions related to interpersonal dynamics and patient care. 3. Work in compliance with all medical policies. 4. Work in compliance with standards such as VFC, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and funding body regulations. 5. Demonstrate commitment to clinical care and confidentiality. 6. Contribute to quality improvement (QI) processes and performance measure projects as needed to meet grant requirements. 7. Demonstrate initiative toward independent and collaborative role in clinic. Utilize problem- solving skills to improve quality of work and patient car Qualifications Educational Background: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.Certification 1. Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistantrequired 1. Within 30 days of hire, complete training in Blood borne pathogens,Post exposure prophylaxis, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.2. Completion of AACO/TPAC Counseling and Testing Training within 1year of hire.3. Current CPR certification is required, or renewal must be obtainedwithin 60 days of employment Knowledge General knowledge base in science, medicine, and the running of a medical clinic. Demonstrate the ability to understand the overall purpose of clinical care and importance of support staff. Basic medical terminology. Proficiency with using an electronic medical record system especially eClinicalWorks. At least 2-3 years of experience working in an outpatient practice. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred. General: 1. Must be able to demonstrate judgment, patience, integrity,organization, and prioritization in a multi-task environment.2. Needs to have attention to detail, dependability, listening andcommunication skills, and flexibility.3. Needs to be competent in the use of Electronic Medical RecordSystems.4. Must be able to pass State Child Abuse clearance.5. Experience and desire to work with a diverse community of youthrequired; experience and desire to work with LGBTQ youth ispreferred Physical Demands: 1. Must be able to sit or stand and remain in a stationary position2. Must be able to walk, move, traverse about the inside of the office,laboratory3. Must be able to see, determine, identify, recognize and inspect4. Must be able to operate, use, prepare, place, position computerequipment, laboratory equipment5. Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, climb stairs6. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds Compensation Competitive Hourly Rate, could be eligible for $500 Quarterly Bonuses, 1 Hour Paid Lunch and comprehensive employee benefits. Non-exempt Other Initial probationary period is three months. Performance of other tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis. Philadelphia FIGHT requires proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination series for all new employees hired.
