A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BEHAVIOR ASSISTANT / CAREGIVER As a Behavior Assistant / Caregiver, you provide direct care to adults with developmental disabilities or autism in a group home setting that encourages the individual's personal success. You provide this guidance and direct care during evening, weekend, or night shifts in their homes or at the activities they attend. Enjoying meals together, going with them on fun outings, and helping them with their chores are just a few of the ways you assist. Your work as a direct support professional (DSP) is also needed in many areas of daily living including hygiene, grooming, shopping, meal preparation, transportation, and housekeeping. You attend mandatory meetings and training as well as maintain certifications as appropriate. As needed, you provide first aid and wellness care. Using effective mentoring techniques, you provide life skills training in areas such as self-care, money management, and relationship-building. You participate with your clients in adult training and enrichment activities. Conscientiously, you keep accurate and up-to-date documentation as well as promptly report any concerns about health or safety. You are a true direct support professional (DSP) in every way. You find it very rewarding to help individuals with developmental disabilities or autism lead self-fulfilling lives! QUALIFICATIONS FOR A BEHAVIOR ASSISTANT / CAREGIVER High school diploma or equivalent 1 year or more of verifiable experience in direct client care Ability to pass a Level II fingerprint background check Ability to lift 50+ lbs 21 years or older Heart for working with individuals with disabilities Is being dependable, professional, and a team player at the heart of all you do?
