JOB PURPOSE: Under limited supervision, develops design solutions that can be delivered through a variety of channels, including print and digital media. The occupant maintains visual themes in compliance with University brand standards to ensure all visual communications to all University audiences are consistently on-brand. This position description indicates in general the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required or assigned to this position. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : Work with University faculty, staff, and representatives to develop publications to include; brochures, posters, advertisements, flyers, tickets, newsletters, envelopes, magazine covers, newspaper ads, social media, and web pages. Create University branded look and feel for publications cycles including the overall look and implementation of graphic elements used in various publications including recruiting and promotional materials and other University publications. Develop all phases of publication creation which may include copywriting, text editing, layout design, and photography choice. Design and prepare layouts of camera-ready materials. Set up photo shoots and select people to be photographed, photography, and photo correction. Consult with staff members to accurately communicate departmental ideas and desired focus. Communicate with internal and external printers to ensure publications are completed in a timely manner with a quality product. Participate in departmental strategic planning and project planning. Prioritize & manage multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions. Meet with clients to discuss themes for an assignment, target audience and desired outcomes. Maintain files for reference. Perform other related duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES: Not applicable. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Associate's degree in graphic design or related field and; One (1) year of experience directly related to the duties specified required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field and Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in graphic design is preferred. Familiarity with HTLM & CSS preferred. Effectively design publications for the specific target market; competency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) and familiarity with PC and Mac platforms. Comfortable working in Google G Suite. May request a portfolio of previous work. The Navajo Nation Preference in Employment Act applies to all hiring, promotions or transfers of individuals into this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS : Ability to be efficient in time management and organizational skills; Ability to create and produce materials using a range of media methods, techniques, and equipment. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing; Ability to effectively design publications for the specific target market; competency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) and familiarity with PC and Mac platforms; Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with other units on campus; Ability to understand and interpret the history, mission, and goals of the University to students and other constituent groups; Ability to work independently, strong attention to detail, and maintain a positive attitude; Ability to work within established brand guidelines and maintain design consistency across media platforms; Knowledge of exceptional creativity and innovation; Knowledge of graphic programs associated with printed and web publication creation; Knowledge of Typography. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Work is performed during normal hours but may include evening and weekend hours; Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires e xerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
