Staff Accountant

Description:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial and operating results of Placon Corporation and related entities. The Staff Accountant partners with the Controller, Analyst, Sales, Engineering, Operations, and others monthly to ensure financial integrity through system maintenance and reporting. As directed, assists with the annual financial plan, audits, and supports the monthly fiscal closing. Essential Accountabilities Preparation of adjustments, journal entries, data entry, and posting, on a monthly or as needed basis, to ensure integrity of the general ledger and financial statements. Timely reconciliation of various accounts. Research information requests and respond to issues involving general ledger accounts Analyze and recommend accounting and financial reporting improvements with a goal of using systems effectively and efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and strong internal controls. Assist in the development of documentation, implementation and improvement of financial policies and procedures. Process financial closing consolidation and eliminations Assist with publishing the monthly financial package to various parties Help with preparing the monthly forecast and financial presentation files Assist with the annual financial plan and quarterly forecasts as required Compile Board of Directors financial information and various census reports Maintain fixed asset projects, associated book and tax depreciation, and file property tax returns Compute and file appropriate sales, use, and GST tax filings Advise Controller on accounting issues. Support external audits and requests (bank, tax, insurance) with appropriate planning and documentation Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures Provide support and/or backup to other Staff Accountant and analysts as directed. Areas include sales, cost, and General Ledger maintenance Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and up to three years of accounting experience. Experience in a manufacturing organization preferred. Desired Skills Proficient using ERP systems (Oracle) and personal computers including Microsoft Office CPA and/or CMA is a plus Data entry, reporting and analysis skills Data reporting and visualization tools (Microsoft Business Intelligence) Schedule flexibility - meet required reporting and project due dates Able to manage multiple projects on an on-going basis Desired Skills - continued Excellent verbal, and written, communication skills in English across multiple departments and leadership levels Self-directed with ability to research and/or work without close direction Familiar with problem solving and continuous improvement techniques Organizational, planning, and project management skills Position Requirements Work Environment Conditions: Inside: Office Equipment/Tools Used: Personal Computer, Oracle, Microsoft Office Physical Requirements: Light work (lift 10 lbs): Lifting filing boxes, compiling reports (annually) Medium Work (lift 11-30 lbs.), Lifting filing boxes (annually) Heavy Work (lift 31-50 lbs.), none Other Physical Requirements: Ability to travel by air, car, or rail. Mental Requirements Reading, writing, calculating Interpersonal Skills Reasoning/Analysis Works with Minimal Supervision Other Mental Requirements: Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Travel Frequency (in addition to seminars or related training): Minimal (0-5%)
