JOB SUMMARY Plan and host cultural activities for patients and families, as well as link patients with existing community activities to promote direct & indirect healing benefits and protective factors for wellness promotion. This will lead to improved physical and emotional outcomes and reduced disease burden. In addition, this position exists to develop and support health education. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Educate the community and promote decolonized diets to improve the health of the Native population that has been severely impacted by colonization and the resulting historical trauma and that has led to epidemics of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other diet-related health problems. Implement tribal practices and cultural traditions to build resiliency and connections to community and culture to reduce disparities and improve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and wellbeing among tribal populations. Increase number of AI/AN reporting stronger understanding of and engagement in healthy living practices, both traditional and contemporary. Increase participation in traditional and contemporary physical activity. Implement family and community events that connect cultural teaching to health and wellness. Work with garden personnel to utilize fresh produce for healthy cooking demonstrations to promote physical health and wellbeing utilizing cultural teachings and practices about traditional healthy foods. Partner with staff at the American Indian center to offer fitness classes for the community to increase participation in traditional and contemporary physical activity events. Create health and cultural education materials as needed. Connect community members to Indian Health Board services. Represent the Indian Health Board at meetings and with other organizations as appropriate.' EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate degree and/or 3 to 5 years' experience working in the Native community supporting wellness programs. Previous experience teaching culturally based classes. e. Drum making, bear bundles, etc. 1-2 years' experience working with grants, programming, and projects. Excellent typing, computer, transcription, and organizational skills. Knowledge and experience with computer software technology. Willingness to learn new programs and technology as needed/required. Zoom/Google Hangouts/Microsoft Suite and Teams Ability to design and manage tracking systems and tools to support the programming Knowledge and respect of the American Indian culture and other culturally diverse populations we serve. HIPAA IHB makes reasonable efforts to limit access to and use of protected health information (PHI) by employees to the minimum necessary performance of assigned duties as outlined in job descriptions. This position is access restricted to PHI needed to provide health education and carry out health care operations in assigned clinical area.
