JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Indigenous Services Manager, the Indigenous Drumming Instructor will recruit youth and families for the Dewe'igan Zhewindindiwin (Drum Teachings for Success) indigenous hand drum program, provide weekly instruction and teaching in local American Indian hand drumming and singing traditions to Native families, assist in implementing four quarterly and one annual hand drum event for participants and their families, and track attendance & other measures for grant reporting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Indigenous services -Dewe'igan Zhewindindiwin (Drum Teachings for Success Recruit four quarterly groups of ~10 youth of any of the following age groupings Early childhood (roughly preschool to second grade, and may include one caregiver per child) Latency age (third to fifth/sixth grade) Preadolescence (Junior High/ Middle School ages) Adolescence (High school ages) Young adult (Post high school up to age 24) Adults (24-99 years old) Assist drum-maker in drum-making workshop for each quarterly group Lead and teach eight-week drumming and singing groups for each age group recruited, preparing for the quarterly family engagement feast, and keeping accurate records for grant reporting Assist organizing quarterly event and insuring participant attendance and completion Outreach, linkage, marketing, customer service Assist organizing annual hand drum event and insuring participant attendance. Facilitate referrals and access to Counseling & IHB health care services for program participants Support attuned customer service to clients, referral agencies, community, and co-workers at departmental and individual levels Re-indigenization and de-colonization responsibility Endorse and maintain awareness that each essential job function should be viewed and implemented in a way that respects the American Indian community, that seeks to harmonize Western with Traditional Indigenous healing practices, preferences, and perspectives, and minimizes colonized traumas. Participate in community and indigenous activities and events regularly Professional development Meet regularly with Indigenous Services Manager to review performance, solicit & provide feedback, and promote positive work relations Participate in all required IHB meetings. Financial responsibility Support fiscal responsibility for Counseling programs and services, and be a good steward of Counseling resources for the good of the community EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Excellent typing, computer, transcription, and organizational skills. Knowledge and experience with personal computer software technology. Willingness to learn new programs and technology as needed/required. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to prioritize own work and work independently. Ability to design and manage tracking systems and tools to support the programming Knowledge and respect of the American Indian culture and other culturally diverse populations we serve. HIPAA IHB makes reasonable efforts to limit access to and use of protected health information (PHI) by employees to the minimum necessary performance of assigned duties as outlines in job descriptions. This position is access restricted to PHI needed to carry out health care operations. Important: The COVID and Influenza vaccines are required at Indian Health Board
