Job Description:Boston Conservatory at Berklee invites applications for a full-time open rank faculty position in Music Theory in the department of Composition, Contemporary Music, and Core Studies. The ideal candidate for this position will be a motivated, creative professional who is committed to excellence in teaching and mentorship, has a robust record of teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and enjoys working in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. This is a 9-month full-time faculty position with a renewable contract; initial appointment to begin September 1, 2024. Compensation and rank are commensurate with professional experience. Composition and Core Studies at Boston Conservatory: Core Studies includes Music History and Music Theory, and includes all courses in the Ear Training, Harmony & Counterpoint, Time & Rhythm, and Narratives of Music History sequences for undergraduates, as well graduate seminars, advanced Theory/Musicology electives, and review courses for MM students. The Core Studies area reaches all degree-seeking students in the Music Division. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Primary duties in the Core Studies department include teaching core undergraduate requirements (Ear Training and Harmony & Counterpoint sequences), graduate remedials, and other theory offerings as needed, as well as assisting with placement testing and curricular design. Other duties and responsibilities will be based on needs of the department, the candidate's individual experience along with areas of the candidate's specialization, as well as service and committee assignments as needed. Required Skills: Experience teaching core music theory courses at the college levelHigh level of familiarity with diverse contemporary and historical repertoire and composersExperience teaching aural skills, common practice and post-tonal theory and analysis, and dictation at the college levelCommitment to supporting a diverse student body, with demonstrated experience fostering diversity in programming, teaching, recruitment, or curationAbility to teach to diverse musical styles and ways of learningCommitment to fostering a robust student community through recruitment and admissions efforts Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in Composition, Music Theory, or related subjectMinimum 3 years teaching in accredited higher education institutionExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsWillingness to work within a diverse faculty and student body Submission Process: Electronic applications only.
