International Exchange Coordinators (IEC s) find volunteer host families, match students with those families and mentor the exchange students while they are in the USA. The IEC works closely with the local high schools, the host family and student to ensure a successful experience. The best IEC s are enthusiastic about cultures, enjoy working with teens and are active in the community. It s a very flexible, part time, freelance position with compensation and travel opportunities. Most IEC's work full time and many actually work in the education field. Our students are well screened to participate in our program, speak English and have shown they have the maturity and academic ability to be successful in a host family and American high school setting. Our mission is to break down cultural boundaries and unite people from around the world. The program is very rewarding and offers a unique experience to learn about another culture, bring cultural awareness into our community and schools and to create lifelong friendship with a student and their family. Exchange students get very excited about everyday things we take for granted like choosing classes at school, pep assemblies, prom, school sports, and favorite American holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving. Even riding a yellow school bus or eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich are things they have never experienced! Being a local coordinator gives you a chance to experience other cultures and make a positive impact in the world. If you love cultures and working with kids, it is the perfect opportunity. It is just beautiful the way it touches lives and creates a lifelong bond for the student and their American family. It is incredibly rewarding!
