Email resume to Justine Murray XXXX@yfut.org Youth Advocate Job Description: Youth Advocate reports directly to the Program Director orShelter Supervisor. This position provides direct supervision and assistance toa maximum of 10 homeless youth in the shelter home, individually aged between12 and 18 years old. The position requires the documentation of residentbehaviors and actions using the computer or documentation forms. The positionrequires the flexibility to adjust hours in order to provide coverage on theunit in the absence of other staff as needed. Weekend and holiday hoursincluded. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES -Assist with homework, basic needs, cleaning, and householdchores -Prepare meals for day and swing shifts-Transport resident in agency vehicle/van to various communityresources, schools, etc.-Provide constant supervision of resident behaviors andinteractions at all times -Assist with morning and bedtime routines -Encourage socially acceptable habits and behaviors (i.e.personal hygiene and grooming, table manners, etc.) -Encourage positive relationship building -Uphold requirements of acceptable group living (i.e. maintainproper stock of food, clean shelter and environment, clean clothes, etc.)-Other tasks may be assigned such as lawn mowing, shoveling,gardening, painting, moving furniture, and other laborious activity -Administer CPR/ first aid as needed PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -Ability to use and understand the company’s hand-offde-escalation behavior management techniques as needed with residents -Ability to stand from kneeling position without assistance -Ability to lift 50 pounds CORECOMPETENCIES -Setting boundaries and using fair, consistent, and clearexpectations. Not accessing clients through personal social media (Facebook,Instagram, Snapchat, twitter, etc.). Not giving clients’ money or personalinformation. -Sensitivity, awareness, and understanding of the residentneeds, problems, interests, skills, deficiencies, and idiosyncrasies -Observe, understand, and use group dynamics -Handle disruptive behaviors in a calm, professional manner -Utilize behavior management techniques when resident becomesphysically disruptive -Imagine how an action will affect thefuture of a situation -Recognize and react to various situations quickly and respondaccordingly -Know whereabouts of residents at all times -Give full attention and understanding to points being made byresidents; asks questions when appropriate and does not interrupt -Create engaging activities for the clients to participate inand develop relationships -Serve as an effective role model -Use trustworthy, supportive, and youth focused techniques -Teach and model the adult role such as honesty, individualinitiative, integrity, responsibility, respect for others, respect forproperty, and respect for authority -Teach and model courtesy, manners, public behavior, meetingpeople, and reliability in school and job situations -Respect and work effectively with individuals of diversecultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds Additional Activities -Co-facilitate psycho-educational groups -Co-facilitate life skill groups -Develops team building activities -Document services -Teamwork -Read client and staff logs and checks schedule prior tostarting shift -Communicate verbally with staff about previous shift -Support and assist team members in crisis situations -Attend monthly team meetings -Take initiative to suggest program improvements Professionalism and Work Conduct -Follow policies and procedures to maintain order, includingagencies code of ethics-Effectively manage own time to get work documentation and jobresponsibilities completed-Take responsibility for ones actions, job performance, teamdynamics, and client interactions-Report to work, meetings, and activities prepared and on time-Maintain confidentiality at all times-Accept responsibility for agency property and equipment, suchas vehicle use Professional Development -Assess performance of self to identity areas of improvementor corrective action-Recognize own strengths and weaknesses to identify individualdevelopment and career plans-Utilize supervision as an opportunity for growth anddevelopment; implement feedback and direction from supervisor-Willingly accept new challenges and adapt to change-Proactively seek out additional tasks and responsibilities tocomplete Communication and Documentation -Record daily documentation of resident behaviors and actionsusing Youth Futures Standards-Talk to resident and co-workers to convey information so thatothers understand-Write clearly and succinctly to ensure the appropriatemessage is conveyed- Use appropriate grammar, tone, sentence structure, etc.-Communicate pertinent information, such as crisis and safetyissues-Consistently sign in and out of communication and vehiclelogs-Follow up when information is unclear; ask questions-Complete required paperwork accurately and on time-Effectively utilize agency provided computer to recordresident documentation Qualifications -Must be 18 years of age- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing- Knowledge of word processing and basic computer functions;intermediate to advanced computer skills required- Maintain a valid Utah Driver’s License with no suspensionsin effect the previous 3 years prior to hire (if operating company vehicles)- No history of child abuse or neglect- No sex offender registry listing-Pass a BCI background check-Certify on Food Handlers, CPR, and First Aid Working Conditions -Exposure to resident behavior problems that may include physicalacting out and requires safe physical management skills-Exposure to residents with complex mental health issuesand/or disorders-Exposure to individuals with various states of cleanlinessand hygiene-Equal opportunity EmployerPart time available starting at $10.00per hour.
