Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment. Position Description: It has been estimated that nearly 70% of children currently involved in the Juvenile Justice System experience psychological issues or distress. Applewood Centers is currently seeking a qualified mental health professional to address this issue. Responsibilities Include: The Youth Justice Center Therapist is tasked with identifying, assessing, and treating young men and women who are referred to the Crossroads Program on the Lorain County Detention Center campus. The therapist will be responsible for clinically assessing and diagnosing individuals referred to the program as well as conducting counseling interventions with clients and families both at the center and in the home/community. Therapists are responsible for running various therapeutic groups with both clients and guardians to meet programmatic expectations. Therapists will also develop and make recommendations for continued services and treatment for clients identified once they are released. Outside of Applewood’s therapeutic services, the program is managed by the Lorain Juvenile Court and provides aspects of the program expectations as well. The therapist and court personnel work as a team to successfully discharge a client during the 16 week program. Qualifications: Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s level preferred. A valid Ohio Social Work or Counseling License, chemical dependency experience or certification preferred. A minimum of 2 years prior experience in the delivery of mental health services to children with complex needs is essential; as well as proven experience with clinical evaluation/assessment and crisis intervention.
