With the recent receipt of a transformational estate gift by an early alum, SSPI has completed a new strategic plan and now has the financial resources to broaden our impact in STEM education. The 10-year vision of our plan is to reach 10,000 students each year in a variety of STEM programs, with at least 50% coming from historically underserved communities, with challenging, engaging, and transformative science experiences. Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the VP of Research and Evaluation will be responsible for leading the effort on new initiatives and will oversee the educational research and evaluation functions to improve program implementation to maximize impact. As a part of this effort, they will establish research objectives, create evaluation plans, identify funding opportunities, and in coordination with the Program Operations team, pilot new programs. The ideal candidate for the VP of Research and Evaluation is a collaborative and accomplished STEM education researcher with dedicated experience addressing the barriers to equitable and inclusive STEM learning with a history of successfully securing federal grants for STEM programming. The candidate’s career highlights may have involved developing and evaluating secondary and post-secondary STEM programs for youth, especially in the 7th to 12th grades and early undergraduate students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities In partnership with SSP leadership, evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of proposals for new SSP education initiatives, educational research and lead new program development and implementation that aligns with SSP’s strategic plan Lead educational research and evaluation studies to maximize program impact and expand SSPI’s reach and academic profile Establish research objectives and goals in alignment with strategic plans and initiatives Oversee staff and consultants conducting evaluations to determine the effectiveness, and impact of SSP programs and to ensure compliance with educational standards. Create evaluation plans for new and existing programs, including data collection, data analysis methodologies, reporting, and project timelines. Oversee the collection and analysis of data to track progress against program goals and metrics. Partner with SSP leadership in decision-making regarding the implementation of new programs. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate presentations of research developments and information for internal and external audiences. Educate and contribute to the improvement of staff and institutional knowledge related to program evaluation and educational research. Serve as a subject matter expert for education-based research initiatives, collaborating across disciplines and functional areas. Identify evidence-based strategies and interventions for program improvement. Identify and secure funding opportunities for advancing new and existing program initiatives at the local, regional, and national levels. Contribute to the research and evaluation needs for grant and funding requests to external stakeholders. Plan, develop, and implement processes and protocols to support research aims. Monitor the Research and Evaluation functional budget and approve expenditures. Perform other duties as assigned. Education/Experience PhD in Education or Psychology or EdD or related field 5+ years of successful STEM research and/or research administration, and program development. Demonstrated expertise to equity and inclusion in STEM teaching and learning Research, analytical, and/or technical writing expertise as evidence by publications, presentations, or other documents. Record of securing state, local, and/or federal grants to advance STEM based educational initiatives. Experience developing STEM programs for youth for grades 7-12 and/or early undergraduate student bodies. Skills and Abilities Proficiency in data collection, compilation, and analysis. Ability to use statistical and qualitative methodologies to evaluate program effectiveness. Ability to collaborate with staff, faculty, and external stakeholders. Ability to identify the efficacy and feasibility of new initiatives. Proficiency in communicating research findings to diverse audiences. Ability to develop and facilitate presentations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong research administration and project management skills. Skill in planning, developing, and implementing processes and protocols. Ability to monitor budgets and approve expenditures. Strong organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of traditional barriers to STEM education.
