At Schwab, the Office of the CTO (OCTO) is responsible for defining, publishing and managing the way that Schwab delivers and run solutions for Schwab’s clients. The organization works with the thousands of technologists and the business to ensure that Schwab produces scalable, secure, high-quality product and operations. The Office of the CTO is organized into departments that are responsible for Enterprise Architecture, Application and Platform Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, the Delivery Experience, and Technology Strategy. As a Delivery Experience Tools Technical Director, you will be responsible for forming the strategic vision and setting the overall direction of the tooling that our teams use to deliver product to our clients. This team includes delivery, support and strategic responsibility for the entire firm. Our users span the entire business but are primarily software developers, quality engineers, business analysts, project managers, and business partner teams that work together with application development teams across the enterprise. The tools we support are used every day by Schwab’s software development community and include Application Lifecycle Management, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Agile Planning, Source Code Management, Test, Build, Security, and Process Automation tooling. What you’ll do: Tool Evangelist for a wide set of tools, including the Atlassian stack (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Crowd) applications for the Atlassian stack (Zephyr/ZAPI), GIT, Jenkins, IBM Security products, and other state-of-the-art build/test automation tools Drive Best of Class Test Automation strategies and tool adoption across Schwab following the latest Agile test methodologies Improve Quality Engineering by helping teams adopt tools and “shift left” Drive adoption across the enterprise of Sauce Labs or BrowserStack Envision and implement a fully automated CI/CD (Delivery) pipeline so that teams can deliver higher quality applications to our clients faster. Build a trusted relationship with development and product teams across the firm so that you can gather requirements and propose solutions for team needs Setting strategic vision for tooling that is part of the CI/CD pipeline. This is the tooling that is used from ideation to delivery. These tools fall into the Plan, Design/Code, Build, Test, Deploy and Operate/Run categories. Direct involvement in evaluation of various tools/applications/plug ins to ensure our customer needs are met correctly and that gaps or filled and tools are replaced as necessary to keep up with shifting tool landscape Embrace teams software development process/methodology, participate fully and provide coaching to less senior engineers where applicable. Take the lead in communicating concisely and effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders on team deliverables, risk and issues. Communicate with individuals on application teams including Managers, Developers, Project Managers, and Infrastructure Support in an Agile development process Provide hands on customization, integrations, and custom application/script development for various tools to meet client/Product owner’s needs. Provide effective solutions to complex engineering problems Provide expert setup, configuration, support, troubleshooting, usage guidance, and training to our clients for supported tools. Enhance existing/new tools to integrate with continuous delivery systems. Work together with the Senior Management on understanding the overall direction/scope of various projects and help translate those into JIRA artifacts Ensure architecture designs and functional requirements are properly documented What you have: BA/BS or higher degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5-7 yrs of experience in software development, tools administration, and/or usage with a desire to provide technical and/or support leadership on a wide variety of industry-leading tools. Experience with development operations of continuous integration, automated testing and automation of the dev process. Experience with testing solutions such as Quality Center, Quick Test Pro, Zephyr, Selenium, Cucumber, Sauce Labs, BrowserStack, etc. Experience in a DevOps / CI / CD oriented environment is must. Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization to remove barriers to the adoption of development tooling Experience with the Atlassian tool stack is a plus
