The Sr. Proposal & Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the Complex/High Spec Group in the Systems + Solutions - Americas organization. In the Complex / High Spec Group the project engineer will have the cradle-to-grave responsibility for generating the solution, assisting with all selling efforts (in partnership with the CCs) and once secured, ensuring the successful completion of the project, including start-up and commissioning. Main Responsibilities: Preparation of accurate detailed technical and commercial proposals by interpreting clients requirements as described in enquiry requisition and project specifications, sizing the required equipment by undertaking process, thermal, electrical and mechanical designs, commenting on client's commercial and technical specifications with deviations being listed and comments made as appropriate, completing preliminary production schedules, data sheets, typical procedures and other bid documents and supporting the preparation of tender drawings as appropriate. To assist in the maintenance of an accurate and extensive cost data base Preparation of cost estimates sheets to define required scope and participating extensively in the cost estimation process to a level of accuracy such that exposure to overspend on contracts is minimized and developing selling price strategy to ensure that contacts are secured such that profit margins are maximized. Liaising with commercial risk manager and business manager to obtain and develop commentary on customer terms and conditions. Providing extensive and effective mentoring of design engineers on high and ultra-high vacuum applications and providing them with supporting materials. Responding accurately and promptly to clients technical and commercial queries after submission of proposals. Attending bid clarification meetings for detailed discussions with client discipline engineers and commercial staff and negotiation of final contract details including price, lead times, extent of liquidated damages and warranties together with other commercial details during or after such meetings. Once a project is secured, collaborate with the Systems + Solutions team, including project management, supply chain, design, planning and operations to establish all project deliverables including technical submittals, project scheduling, QA/QC plan, procurement plan, etc. Work with inside resources and outside engineering and design firms and resources to establish project requirements and drive all ensure accurate and timely delivery of all engineering and design requirements, including drawings, engineering calculations and analysis, electrical schematics, software development and detailed BOMs To provide adequate and timely support for any field work and on-site activities such as start-up of the equipment, commissioning and troubleshooting when required. Responsible for all project engineering activities, including detailed specification of all system components, ensuring adherence to all customer specifications and requirements, compliance with all industry standards and local regulations. Manage and maintain all required information within the appropriate ERP system(s). Drive towards strict budget goals, ensuring project margins meet or exceed margin expectations at time of quoting and contract assignment Manage change order process, collaborating with all internal stakeholders, including the CC sales organization, leading all technical discussions, and supporting commercial negotiations. Collaborate with all project stakeholders including project management, Operations, Supply Management, Quality, Design Engineering and Finance to ensure successful completion, achieving on-time delivery within budget goals Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Relevant Previous experience Result-oriented and experienced professional (5-10 years) with proven senior experience in rotating equipment industry, more specifically within the process industry (petrochemical, chemical, power, O&G) Experience with vacuum technology and ability to engineer systems for multiple applications and industries is highly desired Experience with wet and dry vacuum pump technology highly desired. Extensive experience working with EPC's in both the quotation / proposal generation as well as project execution phases for complex systems involving multiple components such motors, drives, heat transfer technology, vessels, instrumentation, and controls is desired. Related commercial and/or business development experience advantageous Extensive experience working both the quotation / proposal generation as well as project execution phases for complex systems involving multiple components such motors, drives, heat transfer technology, vessels, instrumentation, and controls. Ability to review and interpret complex specifications as well as lead all efforts within the organization and with major suppliers to offer technically advantageous solutions at a competitive price and within acceptable lead times. Related commercial and/or business development experience advantageous. Knowledge areas/Skills Strong technical competency in rotating equipment and high vacuum applications. Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Scope of the job: Geographical scope of the role: Primarily Americas and potentially global depending on level of expertise. Pattern of work cycle Driving the systems business in the process industry into further profitable growth within the industry within Oil & Gas, Chemical and Power industries.
