POSITION DESCRIPTION MANAGER, Membership Engagement and Development Reform Alliance Advocacy Institute Department OFFICE LOCATION: New York Organization Overview REFORM is committed to transforming probation and parole throughout the United States by changing laws, systems, and culture. Veteran criminal justice advocate Robert Rooks leads the organization as CEO. Purpose: The Manager, Membership Engagement & Development, will work on the Reform Alliance Advocacy Institute team and will play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community, driving activism, and empowering individuals passionate about criminal justice reform. This leadership position is responsible for the management and execution of REFORM Alliance’s membership funnel model. The candidate must combine strategic planning, relationship building, and outreach to enhance the organization's impact and mobilize a diverse Super Reformer base to support REFORM’s legislative priorities. This position will require travel upward from 25% to 35%. Responsibilities: OVERALL In partnership with leadership, develop and implement a comprehensive engagement plan that recruits members into the REFORM Academy. Increase and expand on current opportunities for member participation (i.e., volunteering, town halls, organizing). Partner with members on programming aligning with REFORM’s policy and marketing priorities to excite their interest and deepen their loyalty. Collaborate with the Digital and Events team for membership activation strategy to ensure members are empowered to plan their events to support REFORM priorities. Work closely with the Marketing and Digital team to identify Super Reformers. In collaboration with leadership, utilize and identify tools and applications to support the Reform Alliance Advocacy Institute (Asana and Slack). Serve as a representative for the organization across grassroots mobilization and membership and/or partnerships to advance shared goals. Develop a strategy for opportunities to gather qualitative feedback on needs, benefits, content, etc. Leverage surveys and other forums and use them to deliver updates. Stay updated on membership data to optimize engagement and input into quarterly analytics reporting on member opportunities and performance. Collaborate with the Operations team to facilitate and manage Super Reformer and partner organizations’ contracts and memorandum of agreements to apply for and receive funding for their branded activations and capacity building. ADVOCACY INSTITUTE Support the Director of Advocacy Learning & Development operationalizing the Advocacy Institute through development, curriculum buildout, university partnership, and cohort activities. Support the Director of Advocacy Learning and Development in communicating with other departments, class facilitators and guest speakers, developing and revising training material through routine and weekly class surveys and focus groups, and grading homework assignments. Support Advocacy Institute students, volunteers, interns and externs during their cohort. This includes but is not limited to, ensuring aforementioned individuals have the learning material, access to online courses, schedules and logistical support. In addition, perform attendance tracking and reporting of students, volunteers, interns and externs, and frequent updates via email or regularly scheduled meetings. SUPER REFORMER ACTIVATIONS Work collaboratively with digital and storytelling on membership segmentation strategies to enhance the funnel for Super Reformers. Work directly with Advocacy Institute graduates to plan their own events to support the upcoming legislative session. This includes; Ensuring that event objectives are aligned with REFORM policies Strategically plan events around legislative funnels Partnering with the Advocacy Events Manager to ensure leadership approval, budget alignment, and resources are available. Create and manage events calendar in partnership with the Advocacy Event Manager. MEMBER BENEFITS Develop strategy and opportunities for a broader volunteer program; drive volunteer opportunities across events, letter writing, and petitions. Develop recognition and appreciation programs through awards, digital content, events, etc. Engage in negotiations to secure mutually beneficial partnerships that offer exclusive benefits, discounts, or opportunities to REFORM Alliance members. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred (not mandatory). Proven 5-7 years of experience in membership engagement or community development within the nonprofit sector, ideally in criminal justice reform or related fields. Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and motivating teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and written communication. Data-driven mindset, with the ability to analyze and interpret engagement metrics. Strategic thinking and the ability to develop and execute long-term plans. Proficiency in using CRM and engagement software. Highly organized and strong project management experience Passion for criminal justice reform and a commitment to REFORM Alliance's mission.
