Senior Food Buyer with Experience in Food Distribution and Manufacturing$100K-$120K Plus Bonus and Benefits Onsite, 5 Days a Week in Elizabeth, NJ Hours: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Shorter Days on Friday Candidates must have food industry experience. A private, family-owned food service distributor in Elizabeth, NJ, servicing the Tri-state area for over 40 years, is seeking a Senior Food BuyerPosition Summary: The Senior Food Buyer is responsible for procuring goods within the Food Service product category, ensuring quality, competitive pricing, and timely deliveries. This role requires current food buying experience, as well as experience in food distribution and manufacturing, particularly with major packers.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Procure all items within the Food category of Food Service products. - Negotiate agreements with suppliers to achieve acceptable quality, best pricing, and timely deliveries for the company. - Follow corporate policies and guidelines regarding the ethical conduct of purchasing activities. - Prepare monthly reports by vendor detailing purchasing activity, including price deviations, quality issues, on-time deliveries, late deliveries, promotions, and sales velocity. - Maintain contact with all markets and vendors through personal interactions, professional associations, and trade publications. - Prepare vendor purchase orders, enter orders into the system, send to vendors/brokers, and confirm delivery dates and pricing. - Maintain vendor purchase orders and quotation files. - Issue and monitor company quotation requests for new materials to be purchased. - Prepare an annual budget and purchasing plans to support company needs. - Negotiate major purchase contracts lasting over twelve months. - Establish and direct cost reduction programs to lower overall purchased goods costs. - Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, seeking out new or alternative vendors as required. - Maintain raw material inventory and periodically check quantities for accuracy. - Resolve order and billing discrepancies in collaboration with accounting and vendors. - Process returns for unacceptable items or those not meeting specifications. - Communicate with management regarding new products and forecasts for both new and existing products. - Initiate and distribute change notices for purchased items, including changes in specifications, part numbers, and sources. - Communicate daily with shipping/receiving regarding incoming and outgoing shipments. - Discuss the need to promote or return slow-moving inventory with vendors. - Share current market information with management. - Perform other duties as assigned by management. - Manage a team of Junior and Associate Buyers.
