UNITY HOUSE OF CAYUGA COUNTY, INC. POSITION TITLE: Senior Counselor REPORTS TO: PROGRAM MANAGER DATE: August 22, 2016 REQUIREMENTS High-school diploma/GED with 3 yrs clinical background in field of addiction or mental health or Associates degree in related position with 1 year clinical background required. Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor in Training (CASAC-T) or Credentialed Problem Gambling Counseling (CPGC) preferred or willingness to pursue. Demonstrated expertise to work with persons with addictions/mental illness/MICA required. Demonstrated computer competency required. Demonstrated good verbal, written, interpersonal communication abilities. Expertise to work in a changing environment, be flexible, work in a team and demonstrate knowledge of and expertise to work with internal/external stakeholders. Must be able to be reached by phone/pager and have a vehicle to transport and complete agency business. Valid NYS Drivers License in accordance with Agency policies; expertise to travel. SUMMARY The Senior Counselor works under the general direction of the Program Manager and works in collaboration with the treatment team to provide clinical supervision of the Residents. The Senior Counselor abides by all Agency policies, procedures, corporate compliance, mission, vision, etc. This position is responsible for maintaining resident charts per OASAS regulations, participating in individual/group counseling sessions that include monitoring, issue solving, communication, crisis intervention and any other related program activities. This position may include a caseload as determined by the Clinical Supervisor. The Senior Counselor coordinates/completes required day to day tasks of Residents in accordance to the rules and guidelines (i.e. household chores, monitoring medications, room cleaning, time management expertise are utilized, etc.). The Senior Counselor fosters/maintains an environment of health and safety of the person supported while utilizing effective people skills, demonstrating flexibility, decision-making skills and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve individual issues. The Senior Counselor will foster/maintain an environment that promotes the health and safety of persons served while recognizing that each individual has potential for recovery, lifelong learning and growth. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Respond to the day to day business of GRACE House. This includes; however is not limited to: Answering phone calls throughout the day and respond as needed. Handling/processing Resident concerns/questions. Training/monitoring/assisting Resident day to day activities to include supporting in meal planning and prep, housekeeping duties, i.e. room cleaning, laundry, etc., money management inclusive of facilitating and assisting Residents to independently manage their own finances, etc. Respond appropriately to crisis/emergency situations in order to ensure/secure the safety/well-being of the residents. Response includes acting appropriate to the severity of the situation, adherence to regulatory/agency guidelines, communication and documentation of situation to the appropriate staff. Monitor medications to include; however, is not limited to, storage, record keeping, medication and monitoring of medication, educating Residents in self-administration of medication. Screen and assess all prospective Residents as well as oversee, monitor and approve all services necessary for their care. This may include but is not limited to developing, implementing and monitoring systems that document admission determinations and the subsequent service recommendations and status. Assist Residents with developing positive/beneficial interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Counseling is continual dependent upon need and situation. As directed by Supervisor, perform case management duties to include; however is not limited to: Coordinating treatment services with collateral agencies (outpatient treatment program, legal, medical, recreation, vocational, financial, psychiatric services, etc.), documenting progress reports in a timely fashion, and developing aftercare plans with referring persons/agencies/managed care/insurance entities. Ensuring all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner as per program regulations, practices, policies and procedures. Includes obtaining a substance abuse and substance abuse treatment history from each Resident admitted into the program. Developing and implementing individual Resident service plans, ensuring that plans are initiated. Provide follow-up and modification as necessary. Completing discharge activities according to policies, practices and procedures. May include; however, is not limited to, reviewing/evaluating appropriate placement and necessary follow-up services. As directed by Supervisor, facilitate group support sessions for residents to include; however, is not limited to; designing, implementing, coordinating, etc., groups based on the needs of the Residents and the program. Topics may include; however, are not limited to, recovery-related subjects that are appropriate to the recovery process and in accordance with OASAS regulation and Agency program and philosophy. As directed by Supervisor, monitor and implement individual resident service plans, ensuring that plans are initiated; follow-up is provided and/or modified as needed. Report physical plant damage and needed repairs to supervisor. Demonstrate professionalism, diversity and inclusion by providing quality service/care with respect and dignity for the individuals served. This includes; however, is not limited to; Demonstrating professionalism while representing Agency in any job-related activities both on site and in the community. Developing positive and productive relationships by recognizing the importance of them and proactively facilitate relationships between the persons served and their family/friends. Demonstrating support for individual choice-making in order to enhance confidence and assertiveness inclusive of recognizing and taking pride in individual's abilities and achievements, i.e. practicing religious beliefs, sexual orientation, ethnicity, socio-economic class, etc. Providing opportunities and supports that help the individual served be viewed with respect and as integral members of their communities. Demonstrate professionalism, respect and an expertise to work in a team environment with coworkers/supervisors and external stakeholders. This includes; however, is not limited to: being flexible and cooperative with team, developing positive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, etc., maintaining professional boundaries with both individuals and all employees of Agency, practicing responsible work habits, modeling valued behaviors, etc. Reports to work on time and maintains regular attendance n accordance with agency policies and practices (see attendance/absenteeism/punctuality personnel policy No. 500.501). Attends department/team meetings, trainings, etc. as scheduled and in accordance with agency practice and policy. Performs other comparable and related job duties as assigned. OTHER RELATED JOB ASSIGNMENTS/KNOWLEDGE Compliance with all regulatory and Agency policies, procedures and practices. Includes OASAS Part 819.
