Senior CNC Machinist
Description:
Summary Advanced Technology Cores is seeking a Senior CNC Machinist to fabricate mechanical parts in a machine shop setting to build custom devices for basic science and clinical research. He/she will utilize the CNC and manual machines available in the Bioengineering Core to produce custom parts for supporting the cutting-edge research mission of Baylor College of Medicine. Job Duties • Selects appropriate tools, machines and materials for fabricating custom parts. • Sets up and operates machine tools to produce precision parts to specifications with little or no supervision using a variety of machineries such as a CNC milling machine, lathe, or saws. • Examines mechanical parts using measurement tools. • Works with the engineer of the shop and researchers to study drawings, schematics, engineering information, or sample parts to determine best method and sequence of operations to fabricate parts. • Chooses appropriate methods and parameters to operate the machines and monitor them during the machining process. • Programs CNC machines using CAD/CAM software or program editing at machine controls to plan the most efficient sequence of operations. • Operates a CNC milling machine and lathe. • Measures, examines, and tests completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using appropriate tools. • Maintains equipment and keep work area safe, clean and organized in a proper machine shop condition. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Four years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications • Associates Degree in Engineering or 3-5 years of related experience. • CNC machining and programming experience. • Ability to Independently set up and operates various CNC machines. • Strong experience w/3D CAD/CAM software. • Thorough knowledge in reading drawings and the ability to use standard measuring tools. • Prototyping experience and the ability to apply engineering knowledge to perform tasks given. • Strong planning and organization skills to manage time, handle multiple tasks, and make effective use of resources. • Ability to make decisions and work with limited supervision. • Ability to stand for several hours and use hands/fingers to hold and maneuver parts and/or equipment.
