Summary To be considered, you must apply directly on our Career Center at : Please no recruiters or phone calls!Child Care Resources Inc. is seeking a full-time pre-K Ready To Read Literacy Coach to support preschool teachers working in child care centers in Mecklenburg County on the use of instructional strategies and skills that will enable each student to improve their oral language and master kindergarten readiness skills.Ready To Read is a demonstration project to show local and regional communities how to stimulate evidence-based literacy routines at home and in child care programs that systematically build skills and knowledge to prepare children to learn to read. Ready To Read will help infants, toddlers, and preschoolers develop language and literacy skills in the context of the 3 Rs Relationships with caring adults Routines that provide daily exposure to spoken and written language Reading experiences that encourage interaction and conversation about books Duties The Literacy Coach will: Work directly with teachers to schedule ample time for language and interactive reading instruction Support teachers in changing how they interact with young children and in addressing challenges they encounter in that process Coach and assist teachers to analyze student needs to effectively implement a literacy program with fidelity Model and demonstrate effective use of language development and reading strategies Observe classroom instruction and coach teachers to ensure reading strategies and methods are being effectively implemented Use a variety of methods, including videotaping, to provide effective feedback to teachers Train teachers to administer progress monitoring assessments and support teachers in utilizing that data to inform instruction Maintain confidentiality with regard to child, family, teacher, and program records/data Remain flexible and show a willingness to expand current coaching practices with new strategies to meet program expectations Network with other literacy coaches and participate in ongoing professional development to extend literacy competencies through assessment, feedback, and reflection Devise, prepare, and maintain record keeping necessary to monitor successful execution of the responsibilities of this position Organize and disseminate program materials Promote Ready To Read in the community through presentations and community meetings Maintain communication with Ready to Read Manager, Raising A Reader Coordinators, and CCRI representatives Attend ongoing training events as necessary Perform other related tasks as assigned Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key functions.MIN EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS Masters in Early Childhood Development or equivalent education degree preferred Bachelors with Birth to Kindergarten certification required at a min Ability in early childhood coaching with at least 5yrs of experience supporting teachers and adult learners Foundational understanding of language and emergent literacy (oral language including expressive language and vocabulary development, phonological awareness, letter knowledge, and comprehension) including dialogic reading strategies that emphasize rich and elaborate explanations that encourage children to use their language skills Basic understanding of teaching methods including wait time; before, during and after reading strategies; comprehension strategies; building experience knowledge; activating schema; modeling; think-aloud; and gradual release of responsibility knowledge of pedagogy for conducting whole group, small group, and individualized instruction Evidence of collaborative planning skills Ability in adult learning styles and teaching strategies Ability to listen to and communicate effectively with teachers who may resist changes in their classroom and/or practices Skill in administering baseline and progress monitoring assessments and analyzing data to drive instruction Previous work administering, or a willingness to learn, early childhood classroom and/or program assessments (myIGDIs, CLASS and/or ELLCO a plus) Ability to plan,organize, prioritize, and multi-task Ability to be flexible,proactive, and adaptable to work in a fast-paced and changing environment and manage challenging situations Ability to advocate for this role and adhere to duties that fall within the definition of this position Experience and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups and serve children, families, and educators with diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current drivers license, auto liability coverage, and transportation; able to travel between sites and to offsite events throughout the county and elsewhere, as appropriatePHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: The physical qualifications are those representative of established, general office activities including but not limited to, the use of personal computers, other office equipment, filing and moderate lifting are those activities that an employee must do to successfully perform the key functions of this job. Ability to set up for events which may require transporting/lifting materials weighing up to 20lbs.
