R&D Associate Nuclear Systems Data Analytics Engineer

Requisition Id 1916 Purpose Seeking a R&D Associate in the Advanced Reactor Engineering Group of the Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for development of advanced data analytics methods for data integration in engineering simulations of nuclear systems and control systems. Major Duties/ Responsibilities Work with experienced research staff to implement data analytics methods within engineering simulation, analysis and system control software Apply machine learning and Bayesian calibration methods to enable multi-scale, multi-physics model development Expand dynamic reliability analysis and maintenance planning capabilities Introduce decision analysis methods to evaluations of large scale engineering system trade off studies related to nuclear reactor deployment and fuel cycle optimization Contribute to the optimization of nuclear system and component designs for performance and safety Develop reduced order models, closure models, or hi2lo calibration models Complete simulation solution verification, model validation, uncertainty quantification and documentation Experience required PhD in nuclear, mechanical, or chemical engineering or engineering physics or related position Demonstrated ability in the implementation and application of highly-scalable data analytics methods, such as machine learning, deep learning, Bayesian calibration, sampling methods, optimization methods, reduced order surrogate model methods, and/or game theory Demonstrated results-oriented problem-solving skills and a willingness to apply those skills to a variety of engineering problems Great communication abilities (verbal, presentation, and written) are required to enable effective interaction with technical peers, program managers, and sponsors Expertise to operate independently and in a team environment, thoroughly document work performed This position necessitates the expertise to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. Requirements Desired Documented background in the application of data analytics methods for semi-autonomous or autonomous control systems Documented background in the application of data analytics methods for the development of reduced-order multi-physics models of nuclear reactor cores or systems Fundamental understanding of the principals of nuclear reactor theory and design, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, structural mechanics, and engineering materials This position will remain open for a min of five days after which it will close when a qualified applicant is identified and/or hired.
