Position Overview The Public Works Director leads and manages all functions of the Public Works Department, which operates under a traditional structure. This role involves overseeing departmental operations for the streets/parks, water, and wastewater divisions, supported by a team of 22 full-time employees. The director is also responsible for managing the department's annual budget of approximately $20 million, covering personnel, operations, and capital projects. In addition to these formal divisions, the Public Works Department provides expertise and oversight for the construction, maintenance, and operations of buildings, facilities, and major infrastructure. The position includes responsibilities in fleet management, project management, public relations, safety/risk management, emergency management, working with city committees, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position requires a dynamic leader with a comprehensive understanding of public works operations and a strong ability to effectively manage both people and resources. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas: Knowledge Technical Aspects of Public Works Municipal Government Operations Civil Engineering Principles Regulatory Compliance Environmental Regulations Skills Leadership and Management Budget and Financial Management Project Management Technical Analysis and Problem-Solving Communication and Interpersonal Skills Abilities Regulatory Interpretation and Compliance Strategic Planning and Implementation Emergency Management Public and Interdepartmental Relations Technical Proficiency Additional Information, including a complete job description, can be found in the attached materials.
