Laradon staff work extremely hard and are challenged every day, but they play a key role in supporting the well-being of the individuals that we serve. As an Employment Specialist you will be a valuable asset to Laradon’s mission by a ssisting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) in obtaining and maintaining competitive community based employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. The Employment Specialist will assist a participant in securing a job, training them on the job and providing support during their employment. They work directly with program participants to support them with developing job seeking skills, communication skills, social skills, self-advocacy, and helping them achieve their long-term goals. This includes developing strong relationships with participants, their families, funders, and their employers. No day is ever alike but you can generally look forward to the following responsibilities: + Develops and maintains positive relationships with individuals with IDD, families, advocates, DVR counselors and employers. + Attends IP, IDT, DVR, and other meetings. + Travels to participant’s job sites regularly to provide job coaching which involves providing instruction, training, and ongoing support. + Conduct assessment, job readiness process and job development for participants. + Stays in regular communication with employers/supervisors and advocates for participants' rights to equal treatment and pay from employers while encouraging self-advocacy and maintaining positive employer-employee relations. + Provides participants with travel training and/or assistance with public transportation. + Makes sound decisions about participants' welfare on the job site and follows all established health and safety guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all participants. + Conducts outreach to employers in the community through a variety of methods including: cold calling, arranging meetings, and attending networking events. + Works collaboratively with team to identify opportunities for additional positions at current job sites and in the community. + Assumes full responsibility for a caseload of participants, including documenting all services in Evolv and completing reports required by DVR. Completes required paperwork in a timely and organized manner. + Assesses employer’s needs to identify positions that are valuable to their enterprise and in alignment with participant's skills, goals, and support needs; this could include creating a job description and finalizing with employer. + Manages existing employer relationships and follow through on established leads. + Assists with developing, presenting, and maintaining a job seeking skills training course for individuals with IDD. + Models safe work practices through the utilization of site-specific and company safety procedures. + Communicates effectively with staff and supervisors regarding pertinent issues. Consults with managers to create efficiencies and improve work procedures. + Represents Imagine! Employment Services in an appropriate and effective manner in the community. + Maintain regular and punctual attendance + As Laradon is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative, team environment, employee must be physically present in the office to perform the different job functions. + Other duties as assigned. To start you off right in your position, we’ll make sure you are trained in the following: + All trainings deemed mandatory by Laradon + Orientation + Medication Certification + Mandatory Reporting + Incident Reporting + First Aid/CPR + Safety Care + Defensive Driving + Person Centered Training + Trauma Informed Care + Job Shadowing We ask that you bring the following assets to our workplace: + High School diploma or GED. + Must be 21 years of age. + Valid driver’s license and good driving record. + Two years of direct experience with individuals with developmental disabilities. + Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force; physical condition to enable walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; stamina to be on feet and active for full workdays.
