Work Schedule/Days: Day / Monday - Friday Employment Type: Full time Location: Office Park (1644) Requisition #: 31560 JOB DESCRIPTION Provides accurate and timely assignment of appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes on the medical records for the purpose of collecting and indexing quality health details for routine patient types (outpatient diagnostic, outpatient physician practice/clinic, and/or emergency room encounters). EDUCATION High-school diploma or equivalent CERTIFICATION SUMMARY Registered Health Details Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), and/or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Outpatient (CPC-H) or Certified Outpatient Coding (COC) BACKGROUND* one year of background in hospital and/or physician practice outpatient coding PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS* Associate's degree in Health Info Management or related position KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES* Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and computers Proven detail orientation and good problem-solving related to coding JOB RESPONSIBILITIES* Reviews the medical record, super bill, and/or charge sheet to identify the diagnoses and procedures and assigns ICD-10-CM codes to routine patient types. Identifies and assigns CPT-4 codes to all outpatient procedures. Abstracts diagnostic and procedural codes and other pertinent data into the network system as defined in policy and procedures. Reviews/monitors assigned work queues, physician notes reports, and missing documentation encounters and codes and abstracts any accounts that were missed. Provides details on specific problem accounts to the Coding Supervisor. Partners with the Coding Supervisor, Physician, and Practice Manager to identify and resolve documentation opportunities. SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES* Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system. Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
