It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.SUMMARYThe Paralegal will support the Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights (OCR) as an integral contributor to the success and performance of OCR and further OCR's mission as described thru various mission support activities.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to obtain government security clearance.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Participates in resolving complaints alleging violationsofthevariousprivacyandcivilrights laws for compliance with OCR policy and guidelines for case processing.Resolves complaints recommendedforadministrative, non-investigativeclosuresusingprewritten templates and established case resolution guidelines.Consistentlyandaccuratelydistinguishes betweenthedifferenttechnicalassistancelettersandusesthemost appropriate template; followpolicy regardingconsentfrom complainants; draftcasenotes, closureletters, andothernecessarydocumentswithminimal to no typos or grammatical errors.Conducts routine office functions with minimal direction and has experience with a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.Ability to produce, track and manage multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines in a high-performing environment.Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.OTHER DUTIESPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEAssociate's degree and a minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIESExcellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills are required.Experience working effectively within a team and independently in abusy environment.Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, etc.).Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and coworkers, as well as a wide range of people with diverse backgrounds.Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with exceptional discretion.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.Ability to produce quality work, meet critical deadlines and pay attention to detail in a fast-paced, demanding environment.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
