Position description JOB TITLE: Paralegal DEPARTMENT: Legal REPORTS TO: Vice President- Corporate Counsel-Human Resources &Risk Management LOCATION : Jacksonville, FL or Auburndale, FL PRIMARY FUNCTION: The paralegal position researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist the in-house counsel by performing a variety of support duties. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , Including, but Not Limited To: Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes. Reviews contract requests from other departments and disperse these requests within the legal department as necessary. Prepares legal documents such as briefs, contracts, initial and amended articles of incorporation, buy-sell agreements, closing papers and binders, and deeds for review, approval, and use by in-house counsel. Investigates facts and law to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly. Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing details to callers, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail. Prepares affidavits of documents and maintains document file. Knowledge of real estate transactions. Maintenance of corporate books and filings. Familiarity with EEOC, FMLA and FLSA issues. Acts as law librarian, keeping and monitoring legal volumes and ensuring legal volumes are up-to-date. Files correspondence and legal documents in office filing system. Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal documents. Corresponds with internal and external parties, including, brokers, outside-counsel, and insurance carriers. KNOWLEDGE AND ACCREDITATION REQUIRED: A min of 3 (3) years of background as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant. In-house Paralegal or Legal Assistant background is strongly preferred. Impeccable attention to detail. A high degree of professionalism and discretion with the expertise to interact appropriately and comfortably with senior management. Expertise to anticipate attorney, departmental, and organizational needs and to be proactive in completing tasks. Outstanding written and spoken communication abilities. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft office (Outlook, Ms word, Ms excel, PowerPoint, & Sharepoint). This is a full time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening work may be required as job assignments demand. This position is currently domiciled in Auburndale, FL, but with company expansion to the great Jacksonville, FL area, the applicant can reside in either metropolitan area.
