On-Call Biologist - Chico Projects located in Butte and surrounding California counties Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc. offers environmental consulting services throughout the United States with our Corporate Office based in Mesa, AZ and offices in Berkeley, Ferndale, San Francisco, and Santa Rosa, California; Cedar City and Draper, Utah; Rawlins, Wyoming; and Roanoke, Virginia. We are a steadily growing company with telecommuting opportunities employing over 200 employees throughout the United States. Our highly successful team of environmental planners, biologists and archaeologists provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance as well as infrastructure siting, Class I and Class III studies, Historic Property Treatment Plans, and environmental construction management and monitoring. We are seeking qualified on-call biologists to primarily perform field work that currently reside in Butte County and/or in the following California counties: Colusa, Glenn, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Sutter, and Tehama. Field work will primarily include special status plant and wildlife surveys, nesting bird surveys, vernal pool surveys, riparian and other habitat backssments, and construction monitoring. Fieldwork will include both one-day and multiple-day assignments. Candidates applying for this position will be based out of one of Transcon s offices or remote from home. We anticipate employment to begin in late January or early February 2021. Compensation and Benefits Compensation is based on qualifications, location, and relevant experience but will likely range between $20-$28 per hour. This on-call position is a non-exempt (hourly) position and is not eligible for benefits. Location: The position will be remote only, reporting to our Berkeley, California office. Successful candidates will work and travel to fieldwork locations from their homes. Responsibilities: Special status plant and wildlife surveys Nesting bird surveys Vernal pool surveys Habitat backssments Biological monitoring during construction activities to ensure resource protection measures are being implemented Work will primarily be field based; successful applicants should be capable of working long days in the field throughout the year, including single- and multi-day assignments Botanical surveys for qualified applicants (botanical experience not required, but is a plus) Skills and Requirements: B. S. degree (M. S. preferred) in biology, ecology, natural resources, and/or a closely related discipline Strong knowledge of California fauna Minimum of 3 months previous experience conducting nesting bird and/or special status wildlife surveys Permitted or immediately permittable within the state of Wyoming as a Principal Investigator/Project Director Ability to manage employees and field crews Located or willing to relocate to Wyoming or northwestern Colorado (part-time remote work from home/telecommuting is possible) Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently with short deadlines Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy Ability to interact and coordinate with state, federal, and tribal agencies Proficiency with standard field equipment and technology Experience in the following is preferred: Experience monitoring and surveying for California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, vernal pool crustaceans, and/or spotted owl is a plus Botanical survey experience and familiarity using a dichotomous key to identify plant species is a plus Possession of a Scientific Collecting or Federal 10a1a permit is a plus Strong writing and editing skills Familiarity with typical utility operations and maintenance activities Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, Arc GIS, Collector, Survey123, etc. ) Excellent navigation skills Experience driving a four-wheel drive vehicle off-road or in rough terrain Experience working around heavy machinery and communicating with construction crews Applicants must have a clean driving record for at least 5 years prior to the start of work.
