Job Title: Metallurgical Lab Technician Job Location: MNP, Utica, Michigan Job Schedule: Mon - Fri & weekends as needed, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM About us: MNP is an award-winning fastener manufacturer specializing in diameters from M3 to M24. About the role: The Product Assurance Lab Technician supports the MNP Quality division by performing all fastener inspections and performance related testing for various metallurgical and fastener performance test methods. The Lab Technician will maintain all records and provide support to enable the laboratory to function effectively and in accordance with all quality criteria. Attention to detail and familiarity with fastener quality requirements are essential for success in this position. Responsibilities: Dimensional and performance inspection of fasteners using calipers, micrometers, optical comparator, variable thread measurements using Johnson/Tri- Roll gages, as well as other GD&T - positional dimensions (perpendicularity, concentricity, straightness, total runout) using indicators and fixtures as required Review and manage fastener grain flow analysis / head integrity and Thread Lap Inspections (cross section, etch to evaluate) Metallurgical analysis of samples (core hardness, surface hardness micro Vickers, evaluate samples for carbon pickup & de-carb, structure review for martensite, bainite as required Support cleanliness testing of samples Torque testing of samples to evaluate gage ability & adhesive locking performance using transducer and data recorders Use of the spectrometer to evaluate chemical content of steel Use of X-ray fluorescence to determine chemical content / thickness of plantings Participate in continuous improvement activities Work with managers and other supervisors to communicate issues affecting Operations Other duties include root cause analysis of non-conforming / suspect parts Essential skills required for success at MNP : Adaptable / flexible Life-long learning Compassion Communication Listens well Dedication Dependable / reliable Problem-solving Humility Follows directions Self-motivation Integrity Honesty Teamwork Trust Additional skills and/or experience required for success in the role: Experience in cold forming and thread rolling Blueprint reading & GD&T interpretation / measurement Familiar with fastener quality requirements, strength classifications, thread classifications Knowledge of carbon-based steel (1010-5039) Intermediate computer skills, especially Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook Must possess problem solving skills Demonstrated ability to work well with others, dependable, and trustworthy Excellent communication skills including oral and written Must be highly organized and manage time wisely Able to keep records and complete documents as needed Benefits: Along with competitive pay, MNP offers employees BCBS medical, dental and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance, life insurance, flexible spending account, short-term and long-term disability, 401(k) and 401(k) match, discretionary profit-sharing.
