Supporting the New England Aquarium's mission and Development Department's goals, the Manager, Membership and Annual Fund is responsible for managing strategy and operations for the NEAq's annual fund and membership programs. They will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the membership and annual giving programs, building relationships with donors and members, collaborating with leadership executing direct mail and digital efforts, and communicating knowledgeably about the Aquarium to a wide range of constituencies. As part of the Development team, the Manager plays an integral role in retaining and acquiring members and identifying a pipeline to create a ladder of engagement designed to grow unrestricted giving in partnership with leadership. Success in this position will be demonstrated largely, but not solely, through increased revenue and participation, and the realization of clear fiscal benchmarks. New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with the option for a hybrid schedule, working two weekdays remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, NY and VT. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Manages the day-to-day running of the New England Aquarium's Annual Fund (Mission Forward Fund) and Membership programs ensuring that clearly defined fiscal goals are attained, solicitation calendar deadlines are met, and all stakeholders are kept involved. Works with outside direct response vendor, serves as the primary contact to implement direct mail and digital strategy developed in partnership with the Director, and to builds pipeline of donors and increase annual giving and membership revenue. Serves as primary project manager with internal departments (Marketing, Executive Office, etc.) to insure deadlines for direct mail and digital campaigns are achieved and measured. Takes a lead role in the day-to-day management and growth of a comprehensive and integrated engagement strategy comprised of communications and events that attract, steward, and retain members and donors. Monitors operations, make recommendations for improvements, and scales program. Oversees annual fund and member communications including monthly members' newsletter, renewals, acquisition or other communications; drafts and deploys emails using Luminate Online, Outlook, and other tools. Collaborates on the content development and creation of solicitation, fulfillment, and stewardship marketing and communication materials. As part of the Development team, coordinates with internal partners to identify member-pool prospects for higher levels of member/donor engagement with the Aquarium, as well as means and strategies for stewardship and pipeline growth. Works closely with Development Operations in all matters pertaining to data, reporting, and assessment of fundraising progress to ensure targets are met. Collaborates with colleagues to create, implement, and maintain department policies and procedures. Attends or assists with development events (nights and weekends) as needed. Manages the Membership and Annual Fund Coordinator. Serves as the primary Development website liaison with Marketing. Serves as primary liaison between Aquarium staff and outside direct response vendor. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Training and Experience Five years' experience in fundraising, membership, marketing or related experience required. Demonstrated success in project management, annual fund raising, membership, sales or related field required. Experience working on mailing or other marketing campaigns required; experience creating and managing direct mail and digital marketing campaigns preferred. 1 - 2 years experience directly managing employees preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Raiser's Edge and/or online databases (Luminate Online, Constant Contact, etc.) strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Professional maturity, judgment, and decisiveness to inspire confidence among other staff, senior administration, and donors. Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, collaborative team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and to deliver timely results. Ability to maintain confidential information. Must be available for some evening and weekend events.
