Job Summary : The primary role of an Assistant Lineman will be to work on a crew installing new infrastructure for Edison. This includes pulling primary and secondary cable, asking secondary connections in hand holes, transformers and electrical panels. The Assistant Lineman will also assist the Journeyman with making both overhead and underground primary connections and operating pulling equipment Competencies: Self-starting, customer-service driven Proven background of following established procedures as well as engaging in complex problem-solving to provide solutions to electrical issues in the field. Thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical theory and application. Communicate effectively with customers of varying levels of technical expertise to clearly explain issues, and solutions in a professional and courteous manner. Communicate effectively and professionally with employees at all levels within the company as well as with equipment manufacturers and other vendors. Ability and desire to mentor other service technicians by sharing their knowledge and experience. Organized and focused, managing their time well and not letting anything fall through the cracks. Requirements: Must have a Lineman School Certification Must have a Pole Climbing Certification Must have a valid state driver's license with a clean driving record. Must be able to read maps Willing and able to work outdoors where they will experience extreme temperatures and possibly noise, and lift up to 80 pounds (see physical requirements) Expertise in reading and interpreting maps, engineered drawings, blueprints, and schematics. Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment, forklifts, and mobile cranes accordance to OSHA regulations. If hired, must be able to verify eligibility to work in the United States and pass a pre-employment drug test. Must have passed a California DMV medical exam by first day of employmentMust meet or exceed minimum DOT requirements to drive commercial vehicles, including but not limited to: Possess valid driver’s license Possess English proficiency Be 21 years or older Must also be able to provide proof of insurance eligibility as an authorized Job Responsibilities: Travel to various job locations Review job work requirements and provide input regarding work for the day. Load and unload tools, materials and supplies into and out of vehicles at crew headquarters and job site. Lift, pull and carry insulators, cross-arms, equipment, tools, grounds, dampers, and other materials to and from job sites. Load and unload tools, materials. Climb poles using boot hooks or aerial lift. Work will include the use of hand and power tools; digging holes by hand for pole installation; climbing ladders, poles; working at heights above 35’ on poles and in aerial lifts; manholes and confined spaces. Set and install underground structures, locates, pulls, removes, splices or terminates cables. Operate hydraulic equipment including: boom truck, digger, pole tamper, and bucket truck. Operate lift equipment such as aerial lifts and line truck booms. Operate forklift to load and unload work materials and supplies. May drive a Class A vehicle (i.e. bucket truck and line truck) to and from the job site. May drive a company pickup truck or passenger vehicle to job sites and work locations, meetings and training and will may use vehicle to go to vendor locations and pick up or deliver supplies and materials. Conduct daily vehicle inspections. Must attend all mandated OSHA and company training. Provide on-the-job training, orientation, demonstration and assistance to apprentice linemen. Receive and review work assignments and routes; plans routes, check directions and locations; obtain vehicle safety inspection. Fuel vehicle at designated fueling stations as needed. Walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl or squat to access structures and equipment. Lift metal cabinet doors. Unlock / re-lock gates, doors, enclosures and manholes, as needed. Use hand and power tools to open access panels, lift manhole covers. Attend daily / regularly schedule tailboard meetings Work as part of a construction crew Benefits include: Partially paid medical, dental, and vision available for employee starting 60 days from the first of the month following date of hire.
