Position Title : Lead Teacher (English Learning Center) The English Learning Center (ELC) is a program of Our Saviour’s Community Services and a part of the Minneapolis Public Schools Adult Basic Education Consortium. We are a free community-based school for adult English language learners, serving roughly 800 students each year. Find us at https://oscs-mn.org/english-learning-center/ . Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) also provides dignified shelter and housing for single adults. OSCS takes its name from Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, which founded our programs in the early 1980s. In 2004, we became a legally and financially independent nonprofit. This Role The Lead Teacher reports to the Program Director and is responsible for teaching classes as needed, training and coaching volunteer teachers, and developing, improving and expanding curriculum to ensure our students receive high-quality instruction and can achieve their learning goals. This is a full- or part-time, non-exempt role, working a split am/pm shift of 32-36 hours Monday to Thursday from roughly 9:00-1:00 and 4:30-8:30 or 16-18 hours from 9:00-1:00 or 4:30-8:30 Monday through Thursday. There may be some flexibility around exact start and end times. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Teach classes as needed. Source, adapt, and/or create classroom curriculum and materials to ensure standards and student needs are met. Train, observe and coach volunteer teachers. Participate in training, meetings, and conferences related to adult basic education, volunteer training, immigrant and refugee issues, community needs, teaching, curriculum development, and equity. Collaborate and assist with ELC and OSCS staff on school-wide or organization-wide issues, projects, and day-to-day needs. Actively participate in building a culture of belonging within OSCS. Other projects and duties as assigned. Required Skills and Abilities Ability to follow instructions, communicate with clarity, be a team player, be detail-oriented, and manage time wisely. Demonstrated cultural fluency and commitment to diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion initiatives of OSCS. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. Demonstrated empathetic communication style and strong and successful teaching abilities. Ability to lead, take the initiative, make informed decisions, resolve conflicts, and organize. Skilled at facilitation and system collaboration, information sharing, and team building. Excellent written and verbal communication and computer skills. Knowledge and ability to use standard office equipment and programs. Ability to work at a desk and in front of a computer, use keyboard and mouse, and perform repetitive motions such as typing, sorting, pinching, and other office routines. Ability to perform physical duties such as talking, visual acuity to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned, proximity use of computer software, and the safety of workplace surroundings for themselves, volunteers, and guests. Ability to work well alone or with others.
