Lactation Consultant - Part Time 2 FTE
Position overview Position Objective: Conducts bedside lactation rounds daily and consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems. Essential Position assignments: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the required functions When providing breastfeeding support and teaching to breastfeeding patients and families, utilizes knowledge of personality, counseling skills, and family and group theory. Develops and individualizes a breastfeeding plan of care for each mother-baby couple in accordance with established standards, appropriate prioritization of problems/needs, and mutually agreed upon goals. Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of the breastfeeding plan of care, making revisions and recommendations based on analysis of patient responses to interventions. Selects appropriate breastfeeding related supplies for retail sale and for rental. Over-sees breastpump rentals and retail sales within lactation services. Plans, organizes and delivers lactation services to all breastfeeding patients, both in patient and out-patient. Educational/Background Qualifications: Graduate of approved nursing program or Medical School. One Year nursing background within Women's and Children's environment. Required License/Certifications: Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing. American Heart ociation Healthcare Providers BLS. Adherence to credentialing qualifications of AAMC as stated in the nursing bylaws. International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) certification Work conditions, Equipment, Physical qualifications: There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Physical qualifications - Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
