This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, along with a strong background in biotechnology or related fields. The selected candidate will play a vital role in supporting clients' IP portfolios through strategic advice and practical legal solutions.Duties:Prepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications related to biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical innovations.Draft patent opinions and conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.Engage in strategic IP counseling, including advising on patent portfolio development.Collaborate with clients to ensure alignment of IP strategies with business goals.Conduct legal research and draft documents to support patent applications and IP protection efforts.Guide patent processes, legal developments, and best practices in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.Requirements:Minimum of 3+ years of experience in patent counseling, specifically in biotechnology or related technology fields.Demonstrated experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with a focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or chemical sectors.Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Education:PhD in Biological Sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics) or a closely related field.Certifications:A USPTO registration number is required.JD from an ABA-approved law school.Active membership and good standing in the Illinois Bar.Skills:Expertise in biotechnology patent processes, including patentability, prosecution, and opinion drafting.Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and an aptitude for complex problem-solving.Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, providing insights and strategic advice.High level of academic achievement and a track record of professional excellence.Job Location:Chicago, IL A well-known, top-drawer firm with an especially strong health care practice, this firm offers offices across the U.S. in addition to European and Asian outposts.
