Join us and start doing your life*s best work.(sm) HIM Associate is responsible for processing any requests from patients and 3rd party requestors regarding release of protected health info. The HIM Associate is also responsible for sorting, scanning and indexing documents into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Identifies appropriate document type and indexing elements. Retrieves info from a variety of computer systems to complete indexing tasks. The HIM Associate will foster working relationships with the HIM Department and other departments to ensure timely resolution related to any issues with daily operations. Main responsibilities: Understands the Release of Info (ROI) process, including HIPAA compliance and organization policies and procedures Answers phone calls/ greets walkin patients in a professional manner in accordance with WESTMED Customer Service standards Reviews authorizations for ROI to ensure accurate validity according to federal and state privacy regulations, has a good knowledge of HIPAA guidelines Determines appropriate charges for copies of records based on HITECH, federal and state guidelines Processes requests for ROI in an appropriate, timely, and accurate manner that is consistent with HIM department policies, procedures and guidelines Associate is comfortable navigating multiple systems and generating records in various formats such as encrypted email, CD and/or DVD depending on request Meets productivity and quality goals/standards as set by the department Supports HIM departmental productivity requirements through all processes necessitated by volume and/or staffing levels Maintains the confidentiality of all patient, client, and facility info at all times, both while on and off duty Adheres to health details regulations including HIPAA, AAAHC and CMS as applicable Follows all organization policies and procedures Associate is responsible for analyzing documents and indexing them into the EMR Stores and organize patient-specific data Applies critical thinking to determine the appropriate document type and elements Expertise to examine and classify specific documents as sensitive and lock Devise suitable index terms so users can easily find what they are searching for Proofs documents for record accuracy and consistency Accepts and accurately posts patient payments Prepares documents for scanning by removing staples, tape, paper clips, and torn pages and by ensuring patient name and account number are documented on each page/side On Boarding workflows of new physicians and practices as needed/assigned by manager Assists with other general office duties as determined by manager Cross coverage may be necessary, therefore a measure of flexibility to respond adequately to changing demands is required. Minimum requirements: High-school diploma or equivalent Will consider RHIT/RHIA credentials in lieu of background Min of 1 year working in a health info management department, large outpatient clinic, or acute care facility Background using basic computer programs and office equipment and good typing skills Good knowledge of updated HIPAA and HITECH guidelines Strong customer service skills, management skills, expertise to multitask Strong management skills, able to multitask and great attention to detail Preferred Requirements: Associate Degree in HIM Background in HIM Department and/or release of info RHIT credential Must be able to read, write and understand English Knowledge of release of info procedures and medical terminology Operate independently and as a member of a team Multi-lingual Spanish Careers with Optum.
