Financial Analyst - Post Award Grant Management

Summary The Margaret M. and Albert B. Alkek Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to lead financial analysis, forecasting and reporting related to the departments externally funded research portfolio. The Financial Analyst also assists in the development of the annual operating budget for the section as well as developing financial dashboards and reporting for key internal stakeholders. This position utilizes Microsoft Excel heavily; therefore extensive experience is required. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is imperative. This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area. Current BCM employees who are eligible to transfer are encouraged to apply. Job Duties Develops, prepares, analyzes and/or reviews reports summarizing research financial activity and communicates with leadership, faculty, and staff on the performance of research grants, philanthropic gifts, and other funded projects. Performs high-level analysis on large-scale grants and gifts ($1 million+ in awarded funds) including identifying trends and variances, variance explanations, and identifying opportunities to increase or decrease spending. In addition, regular benchmarking will be conducted to ensure we are utilizing operational, grant, and philanthropic dollars accordingly. Reviews and approves financial transactions and entries, including shopping carts, travel requests, and financial transactions involving assigned grant accounts to ensure the proper allocation of expenses following BCM policy and sponsor guidelines. Assists with the annual budget which includes accounting for cost and effort for faculty and staff on assigned grants and applicable expenses for other budgeted categories. Provides training for other staff and ensures the specialist and financial analysts' entries and transactions are completed appropriately. Manages post-award grants activities. Performs other job duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field. Two years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a related field. Advanced Microsoft Excel experience. Experience with SAP S4 Hana, Microsoft Power BI, and other financial tools.
