Requisition Number: 27694 Position title: DIRECTOR (FUNCTIONAL AREA) Working Title: Executive Director, Executive Communications Salary: $80,000 - $158,000 annually Position classification: Career Department Name: 4060-UCLA COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC OUTREACH Department Web siteURL: www.developmentcareers.ucla.edu Position details Statement: The Executive Director, Executive Communications will be responsible for the overarching strategic framework and development of executive speeches, presentations, and themes for the senior executive leaders of UCLA, reaching the broad range of audiences from global to local. He/she will orchestrate strategic opportunities for the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor/Provost to present University issues and brand messages and will translate the vision, themes, and dominate messages personified by leaders into successful communication opportunities for the University. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm Requirements for Position seventeen Records Experience required/Preferred 1. 10 to 20 yrs of strategic counsel and speechwriting background, serving CEOs and senior-most executives- from higher education, political leadership, or corporations. Required 2. Demonstrated expertise to use communications strategies to move public opinion, encourage stakeholder involvement and support, increase donor support, and establish brand preference. Required 3. Proven ability in ensuring that communications align with strategic UCLA branding efforts. Required 4. Demonstrated expertise to collaborate with high level academic and administrative leadership and senior departmental staff to identify communication needs and to conceive and execute programs and services to meet such needs. Required 5. Demonstrated success in gaining participation through outstanding communication throughout an organization. Required 6. Demonstrated expertise to articulate goals, strategies, tactics, and benchmarks. Comprehensive, current knowledge of technology with the expertise to fully utilize the capabilities of new media. Required 7. Proven work history of effective speeches written for executives. Required 8. Expertise to successfully manage multiple ongoing tasks and responsibilities of varying degrees of complexity simultaneously. Required 9. Demonstrated skills to actively and constructively participate in a complex organization, recognizing the need for a high degree of collaboration. Required 10. A strong strategic orientation, commitment to excellence, and attention to detail. Expertise to handle all info with sensitivity, discretion and solid judgment. Required 11. Strong people skills and demonstrated expertise to build cooperative, effective relationships with administrators and staff. Required 12. Knowledge of distinctions between writing for the eye and for the ear. Required 13. Demonstrated skill in journalist writing on deadline. Required 14. Basic knowledge of public relations practices and procedures. Required 15. Working expertise of the operation of the print and broadcast media. Required 16. Background in complex, global environment and industries preferred. Preferred 17. Master's degree with an emphasis in history, writing, social sciences, education, international relations or business preferred.
